Love in Vain: A Vision of Robert Johnson (David Lynch)

and David Lynch is currently raising funds to make it.

I've always wondered this...if a filmmaker is really really interested in making a project out of a love for the craft and/or the story...why not just pony up the funds and make it? I mean David Lynch is by no means Stephen Spielberg or anything, but I'm sure he's living a very comfortable life. And I'm sure he will be able to obtain funding for the project without much trouble.

But if push comes to shove, why not just keep it low budget and use a couple million of his own personal dollars to make the movie on his own?

Much easier for you to speculate about this than it is for Lynch to do it.

Lynch is over 70 and not gonna risk his financial security to make a movie.

It's pretty much well noted that you should never try to find anything like that out of your own pocket. It's a massive sink of cash that could only get deeper.
