This is probably a really basic question, but does the ub9000 support IMAX Enhanced blu rays?

And would I also need a receiver that supports IMAX Enhanced discs?

I think certain receivers and players will be getting updates, but only the top-end stuff at first. But you need everything including the display to get the best of the format.

Please see IMAX Enhanced thread. The source (player) is only passing non-decoded bitstream to the AVR/display. The IMAX Enhanced AVR could decode the special flavor of DTS, and IMAX Enhanced TV would work whatever image it is passing.

Don't get excited about this too much it's a lot of marketing hype IMHO akin to like THX certified.

The “Enhanced” part of this seems to be HDR10+ video and dts-X audio.
The Panny 9000 has the HDR10+ part I believe, you’ll need a current Samsung display for the time being show it. The AVR part is kinda unknown as which brands and models will be able to pass the HDR10+ dynamic metadata.

If someone else doesn’t have the equipment that plays HDR10+, the HDR10 regular version should play just fine.

Not sure what it takes to pass an IMAX Enhanced BD, but at CEDIA IMAX set-up two theater demos with Panasonic's UB820 and they said it was the only BD player that would work with the IMAX Enhanced demo disc.

I enjoyed Sound United and IMAX's theater demos at CEDIA.

For the curious ones, please read the Sound and Vision article entitled IMAX Enhanced Home Theater Certification: What We Know So Far

Will IMAX Enhanced prove to be a real plus, or simply part of the passing parade of new formats that ultimately either failed (the jury is still out on high frame rate movies) or faded into the background noise? THX is still with us, but is rarely mentioned in today’s product promotions. And 3D may soon be gone, at least until it’s resurrected yet again in 2050.

The dynamic Metadata portion is 100% optional. Regular hdr10 is the only requirement.

At the Sony event I attended before CEDIA they talked about their projectors all being certified for IMAX enhanced and talked specifically about how that meant they met a minimum criteria for performance but it wasn't a new picture mode or anything else. So basically them cutting a check for a logo that just means they thought it would perform good enough. Other than the "spruced up" audio, I'm thinking more and more that this is all a PR thing to generate buzz around more icons on a display or AVR. Also not sure how much juicing I want to an audio track other than some of the Disney fare.

I ordered a UB900 remote from replacementremotes. Com for $74.99 and then 5% off with newsletter so about $72 with free shipping and no tax. Cheaper than eBay and currently in stock.

Will that remote also fight off intruders and cook dinner?

They are $90-100 on eBay. Nearly identical to the Oppo remotes in look/feel/quality.

I have a Panasonic with the smallest remote, half the time I think shouting obscenities at the television will be more effective, if it was supported by Alexa she'd have put in a complaint to human resources by now ... or I'd have seen a lot more Michael Bay movies.

And what kind of a monster puts the RETURN button at the 4:30 position around the control pad?

The 9000 remote is much nicer than the 820 one.

But, for half what you're just paying for the 900 (or 9000) remote why not get a Logitech Harmony universal remote with the full enchilada including lightening and screen display?
They operate your entire home theater setup. With only one button press all you have to do is change the disc inside the player. Yes, $40 will do all of this.

The remotes they include with all players and receivers and TVs, etc. are like the pair of stereo analog interconnects (plus yellow video composite wire) they include in the box.

And why are they still doing this instead of supplying 4K ultra fast speed certified HDMI cables from Monoprice? Beats me, it's like living in the prehistoric age of VCR machines and cassette tape decks.

My Oppo 205 remote is nice; I never put the batteries inside.
I have a whole bunch of remote controls, some expensive ones, some made of crystal metal, feeling like a light saber in my hand, like I am a Jedi from Star Wars, a movie magic man with its Harry Potter wand, like I am invincible, ...
A Harmony universal remote eclipses them all, I am now the grand master of the universe.

I know the OPPO will not play BD-XL but was curious if anyone knows if the 820 or 9000 will play them?

I just use my lg oled tv remote to operate the denon x4400h avr and pannys 820. Sometimes I also use denons app to operate them. No need to use the shitty remote of 820 at all or buy anymore of them..

If it comes with room service while travelling around the world and staying in 5-star hotels I would definitely.

That definitely sounds like a position, and not a job. I don't think Logitech can afford the style to which you would like to become accustomed. Our remote's pricing would have to go up exponentially.

Better keep your day job.
