Agree!
I felt like I was watching "The Young and the Restless" instead of Smallville.

Overall, I've liked this series alot, but it does get bogged down at times.

Kinda found it interesting that Allison Mack who plays Chloe directed the episode from last night.

One thing is i love Lana's new hair style. I find her hotter now but Kara and Lois are still my favorite Smallville gals.

What is up with Lana
[Show spoiler]getting abilities?
I don't like the idea but I think her abilities won't last long anyway.

Season 8 is the first season I've liked since Season 1-3, it's about time Clark grew the heck up. He's not Superman yet, but it took him 4 years to become a man.

[Show spoiler]Maybe it was the trailer for the next episode but I got a gut feeling that the nanite suit is going to require a self sacrifice from Lana, there are things it could enable her to stop that Clark couldn't, there are also things that could destroy her but not Clark.

bravo. although i have to say i thought season 5 was an incredibly strong season as well. introduction of braniac, toss in a little general zod, 100th episode, good stuff i liked season 6 as well. 4 and 7 were the ones that didn't really do a lot for me, despite bring in lois in in the former.

just watched power. i almost wish lana wasn't brought back in the first place. besides the whole super powers thign being incredibly stupid imo, its like they have to restart the whole clark/lois relationship again once lana leaves after next episode (speaking of which where-tf is she??). they were having a really nice build up and now it seems it's gotten caught up in problems that plagued the previous seasons. siiiiiiiiiiiiigh

i also have to say one line of dialogue that stuck out as being ridiculously stupid was toward the end was when tess says "you find her [lana] before she finds me" as shes walking through luthor mansion. WOW. i guess you're going to be really hard to find seeing as how you're just hanging out in luthor mansion where you always are. great writing!!

wow the trailer for next week looks sick

and some good news for fans:

Quote:
The CW is so happy with this past Thursday’s performance of “Smallville” and the show that follows it, “Supernatural” (starring Jensen Akles who was a “Smallville” cast member in season four), that they’ve issued a Press Release touting their winning numbers and growing audience. According to the Release, “Smallville” continues to build week to week in key demographics. Thursday night overall was a good one for the CW. They delivered the best Thursday of the season in Young Women, and the second best Thursday of the season in Adults 18-49. The Press Release goes on to state that:

SMALLVILLE built over last week’s original telecast by 7% in adults 18-34 (1.5/4), 40% in women 18-34 (1.4/4), 6% in adults 18-49 (1.7/5) and 8% in total viewers (4.2mil).

What the show’s unprecedented rising ratings in an eighth season means to a possible ninth season remains a mystery.

This is exactly the reason why I expect nothing from this show except horrible continuity and utter lack of respect for character known as Superman. I used to enjoy this show very much, but last season and the last few episodes of this season have certainly reiterated my views that this show has seen better times.

Lana's resurface only shows this shows complete incapacity to move forward. When Kreuk's episodes are finished I hope this show is worthy of another season. After this past week's episode though, this show doesn't seem worthy of the last seven seasons.

Can you tell I disliked "Power"? Complete garbage.

I think my views on this show have taken such a complete turn because it was a good show when I began watching, relative to my age. Now that I'm an adult, I guess I just expected the show to grow up as well. This version of Clark Kent was forgivable when he was a teen, but being a chump at 22 is unforgivable.

I'd just like to see maturity in both the writing and the development of his character. Bringing Lana back only reaffirms the fact this show is still stuck in the teeny bopper universe.

You'd think with a show that attracted many teens when it started, would grow up with it's dedicated fan base. Common sense dictates it, but as has been the case with this show, common sense doesn't exist.

I'll continue to watch, but have no expectations for grandeur. This show is what it is and I have to accept it I guess.

i agree with many of your points. ultimately, here is what i do not get:

what purpose did lana serve story-wise in coming back??

clark has already moved beyond smallville and begun to emerge as the hero we know him to be. he and lois and have started having feelings for each other, he's begun a new life. i don't care what was said in "power," lana leaving smallville ultimately pushed clark to realize he needed to take the next step because there was nothing left for him there. with her coming back, nothing's been added to the table except old feelings. with her, she's brought back the lex storyline
[Show spoiler] although that doesn't even matter or get me excited since rosenbaum's likely not coming back anyways and they're just using a double to play him
and lana wanting to be just like clark as a superhero just seems kind of lame. the show was really moving forward. while i'm still very enthusiastic about the rest of the season, enthusiasm only last through so many subpar episodes. here's hoping the remainder of the season kapows all the rest.

It's a great question Sussudio. It just seems that the writers and producers are the only ones who seem to be able to come up with a rationale for that.

I will add, that with Lana back it seems that Doomsday has been forgotten. Is it just me or is the creature that ultimately killed Superman less important than Lana? It seems he is, and that's a travesty.

Lana's return is contractually obligated by the show, but her return ruined this season, no matter how well it may have been going.

Let's hope that these four episodes with Lana's return will all be on one Blu-ray disc and I can triumphantly toss is into the *hit pile behind the barn.

I like her hair better like this, but you can't beat the episode of Nicodemus. I actually prefer the old Lana more.

Dude, what do you expect from the Lana storyline? She is such a big part of Clark's life. Do you honestly expect her to fall off a rock and disappear?

Lana's storyline is not a "teeny bopper storyline" at all. She serves a purpose other than to just be Clark's love interest. If you watched these episodes then you would see that she is on a mission of her own that brought her back to Kansas that had nothing to do with Clark at all. She didn't even want Clark to know she was back.

Even after she marries Pete Ross in the comics, she doesn't disappear. She stays in Kansas and is very much a part of Superman's life.

You really show your ignorance on this post.

This is the strongest season so far short of this past episode. This past episode besides the whole Prometheus suit storyline felt like a whole filler episode.

But this season is so strong IMO, because they are staying true to the comics and bringing characters in that actually fit in the mythology rather than what has already been mentioned and just having a different meteor freak come in every week.

True comic book fans can appreciate this season. If your looking for mindless entertainment which your post suggests, then you probably won't like this season.

You can dislike it all you want, but these are pretty lousy reasons as to why.

The Nicodemus episode is the hottest she'll ever be IMO. Teasing Clark in the pool was very very hot. But, she looks great with her new hair.

bam, i think you hit the nail right on the head. one of the biggest reasons i love this season is because each episode is attempting to actually advance the overall plot of the season instead of throwing in random meteor freaks to serve as forgettable one-hour villains. i also agree with your point about lana being such a huge part of clark's life, and it's good to see her back on the show for a few episodes; however, i'm just personally unhappy about the way she was brought back ala wanting to be a superhero on her own. i think it's kind of lame myself, but that's just me. if anything i would have at least liked to see lois in a few of these episodes besides just one so we could see her reaction to lana's return and how she deals with it in regards to clark. i dont really like that her character, who has been so integral to this season, is taking such a huge backstep to lana. but we'll see what happens, next week's episode looks to be sick
