Really hoping the Ub900/9000 remote speeds up the scrolling though settings on the Ub820. It is painfully slow compared to my Oppo and my tv OS, which is probably my only complaint about the Ub820 besides the remote itself.

It's nothing to with the remote bruv, the Panny OS is slow as molasses to respond to commands.

Well that's a shame; you'd think that would be something they'd prioritize when writing it. There's no excuse for the GUI itself to be so slow, unless they've got a lot of background processes running all the time and haven't given the hardware sufficient processor power.

Today's trend is larger TVs than in the past. Anything smaller than 50" is a computer monitor. Anything larger than 85" is your local IMAX theater in your home theater room.

Anyone else having trouble getting any sound out of netflix with 820? It all worked just fine but now it's silent. I haven't made anything to the player or to avr. 820 menu, web browser and youtube sounds do work so it seems to be in the netflix app. My tvs netflix has sounds but I'd like to use the 820 so I can get atmos sounds for the daredevil.

I remember in the 50s my Dad had a black and white TV (round screen); I think it was about 25" in diagonal. That was 1955.

In 1975 I was watching in color on a 26" screen.
In 1985 I bought a 19" Sony Trinitron for $999

Vroom all the dust between then and now and we are in a different bracket with 2001: A Space Odyssey from an 8K scanning and released on 4K Blu-ray for us all, including 4K front projector owners with a 200" widescope screen.

A Panasonic player with a HDR Optimizer is like the new 2018 Darbee from Hollywood.
The GUI might be slow and rudimentary from products like Panasonic/Technics, but we are not talking high end video and stereo here. This is your basic electronics assembled in Mehico.

Oppo is assembled in China, with high grade quality solid aluminum and Velvet Sound and ESS top DACs.
Just imagine for a second if Oppo was making OLED TVs.

There is no need to cry; Remember.

It could be a HDMI handshake issue.
Shut everything down and turn everything back on again.

Tried that, unfortunately it didn't help. It works for you?

I'd also like to see a 'premium option' at 40/42". It's great having an OLED for films and other blu-rays but would love to have something better than an edge-lit LCD for dvd's/broadcast TV etc..

To keep things on topic, if you don't plan to use it as a music player, is the 9000 really worth getting over the 820 in peoples opinions..?

I'm getting the 9000 rather than the 820 for 3 reasons:
  1. It's designed to reduce vibration and internal noise, and I recently upgraded all my equipment to be dead quiet (my old TV used to have a noticeable buzz, I had an HTPC I built that, though quiet, you could still hear the fans, and my receiver also had a buzz; now all 3 are completely fanless and silent).
  2. Build quality - the 9000 is supposedly built like a tank, which I like
  3. Looks - I prefer the "drive slot in the front" black body rather than the flip-down cover thingy.

I don't have a need for the audiophile features of the device, but the things above make it worth it to me.

Actually I'm strongly influenced to the UB9000 for its Atmos Quality, Video quality in streaming Amazon DV Jack Ryan series current and new to come, Netflix Dolby Vision Original movies, programming and to stream my favorites of 400 VUDU UHD Atmos Dolby Vision movies. Granted. UB9000 Firmwares to come.

I have two DV disc players now. One I'm Estatic over.

To me UB9000 Quality Disc Playing is taken more of as a Bonus.

There is one more thing hardly discussed anywhere audio/video world:
The transport; it is preferable to have it in the center of the unit.
• Better separation between the power supply and video processing and audio circuit board.
• Better isolation for vibrations, helps stability.
• High-end cachet and character and care and looks and order.

To the owners of the UB9000 how is the quality of the transport/drawer like.
Is it solid and made from metal?

Doesn't anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my 820's Netflix app as it won't play any sound?
I can see from the denon app that the netflix sends pcm zero signal (so no sound?). Discs and other apps seem to play sound with no problem..

Have you checked these settings?

HOME>Setup>Player Settings>Sound>>Digital Audio Output>Dolby Audio>Bitstream
HOME>Setup>Player Settings>Sound>>Digital Audio Output>DTS/DTS-HD> Bitstream
HOME>Setup>Player Settings>Sound>BD-Video Secondary Audio>Off

First two were already bitstream and I changed secondary audio to off but unfortunately it didn't help.
Now I noticed that the player started to lose sounds on the network service menu and also at disc playback. Could my 820 just be a faulty one?

What are your HOME>Setup>Player Settings>HDMI>HDMI(VIDEO) Output Mode and HOME>Setup>Player Settings>HDMI>HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode set to?
What is HOME>Setup>Player Settings>HDMI>Advanced Settings>Audio Output set to?

How are you connected to your receiver?
