It's my opinion that you don't. I care about watching film. Not having it stored in plastic sitting on my shelf. I'm not going to miss out on great content because delivery methods are changing.

I dont miss out on any content. I have Netflix, Amazon, ITunes, Blu-ray, 4K, Sky TV. I have them for series I can’t get on Blu-ray. It’s not that I can’t watch digital content, it’s more that I would prefer not to. I just watch digital on my living room tv. I save Blu-ray and 4K disc for my HT. I would rather just buy everything on disc. If that was possible, I would drop those services like a bad habit.

I love film. Always have and your opinion doesn’t affect that fact. I grew up in a cinema lol.

I can't even imagine the amount of money it would cost me to buy everything I watch on disc verses my monthly streaming charge.

I doubt Steedeel on many, many things, but not his passion for movies and home theater gear. I think it is that same passion that gets the better of him sometimes.

His predictions are more than fair game for humorous rebuttal and in that regard they are a gift that keeps on giving.

My Grandfather was a projectionist. I fell in love with film as a very young boy.

I would happily pay it for availability of every title I want.

Physical media is dead as an mainstream format. God riddence. But i can see it living on as a niche format for people who love cinema. Kinda like laserdisc.

But streaming is no way an alternative to physical. Streaming has proven to be complete shite for cinema.

If physical media is "dead" how is it that I keep finding newly released titles to buy each and every week, even at stores like Walmart? Doesn't get much more "mainstream" than that. If it "lives on", even as a niche market, then how does that make it "dead?" Rhetorical question; no need to reply.

Good job, though, at alienating fans of both with two equally ridiculous comments.

But it is the truth. Mainstream audiences are not going to be buying movies in the future. They are happy with the absolute shit catalogue of streaming services.

But streaming is clearly not a viable source for movies for cinema enthusiasts.

Blueray is going to be more expensive in the future. It is going to cater to a smaller audience. A more informed audience. You are going to see more and more of the arrows, indicator, 88, criterion, camera obscura labels etc.

It was magical. I promised myself as a child I would have a HT when I was older.

There is no better time to be a film fan IMO. And I think the future is very bright as well.

I was thinking the same when I ordered my 50 titles on Blu-ray and 4K a while back.

Physical media will likely lose its dominance among purchase methods, but to say it will cease to be an option is highly improbable. The 36 year-old compact disc has manged to survive despite all of the premature death announcements. Not saying they are big sellers, but you can find still find most anything on CD.

Unlike CDs, though, where digitally acquired content has equaled their quality, video streaming has not equaled the quality of the corrresponding disc, but to say it looks like "shite" is just silly hyperbole. Physical media will survive thanks to those who value that quality advantage and the true ownership that it provides.

Streaming, for a physical media collector like myself, allows me to sample content before making a purchase decision. It has actually saved me money by preventing me from blind buying a title that I discovered, thanks to streaming, that I did not like. It has also introduced me to content, of which I was previously unaware, that I then went out and bought on disc- streaming led to a physical media sale in these instances.

I also see the advantage that streaming provides for those who travel frequently; it allows access to movies from almost anywhere. Streaming, for me, is a rental and research vehicle that compliments my collecting physical media and while it does not look, or sound, as good as disc, it in no way looks as bad as you suggest.

People have been predicting more expensive discs for ten years, still great prices.

When he says not a viable source, he means the content not the quality, at least I think that’s what he means.

Here in sweden. The only blu rays you can buy in a physical store are the ones in cardboard bins. 2 for 10 euros or so.

And yes i mean content.

Here in sweden. all streaming services have an extremely limited library. And library changes all the time.

The library on netflix is smaller than your old vhs rental store.

They are not going to give you loads of new films for £7.99 a month. Think about it.
