Yeah, Sisters is pure, uncompromising De Palma, in the kind of early-career state that his admirers cling to.

I’m a big De Palma fan. I loved Sisters, but Obsession is pretty lame.

Ride The Whirlwind and/or The Shooting would be pretty awesome.

EDIT.

Just realised I am in the North America Criterion thread, sorry about that fellers!

Really this far into Bluray's lifespan I'm still puzzled why we don't have Bringing up Baby, Monkey Business, Mr Blanders Build His Dream House and a personal favorite of mine Arsenic and Old Lace.

I'm sure I could think of a lot more. This is one of the reasons I'm not that excited when I keep seeing new bluray releases of titles we already have only with a 4k scan.

I'm sure this hasn't sold out before release, it would be the 1st time, so assuming it's been delayed.

FYI my BN had stock this morning. Looks like bn.com and criterion.com are in stock too.

I want Criterion to stop torturing us and upgrade Equinox to Blu-ray at long last. I’ve got the DVD set, and the source material does not leave much room for improvement, but a good high definition transfer would polish it up nicely. I want this one for my glorious exploitation collection.

Also, let’s get Fiend Without a Face on Blu-ray. That’s such a great movie.

[Show spoiler]Diane wins a jitterbug contest and gets to go to Hollywood for a movie audition. She meets Rita who is also there for the part and they end up having a bit of a fling. Rita gets picked over Diane, who also runs off with Adam Kesher the director. Diane sits in misery left with nothing and begins to have a series of fantasies and dreams as Betty the up-and-coming Hollywood starlet who finds Rita literally fall into her lap memoryless. She takes Rita under her wing to figure out what happened to her and they fall in love while they're at it. "Diane" was supposed to get the part but it was a conspiracy by shady Hollywood executives not to pick her and go with Rita instead.

At this point the fantasies and dreams start leeching into Diane's reality, and things go wrong when the truth reveals itself and won't go away. Rita turns on her for the director, etc. During this time Diane has a hit called out on Rita who is murdered and possibly left to rot behind Winkie's Diner as a dirty little secret. Diane continues to shift the blame in her head because she doesn't want to admit everything got out of hand from her own failings, and eventually the old people (I assume casting agents, the ones who got her to Hollywood) begin showing up as phantoms and it all culminates in her suicide.

"A poison letter to Hollywood" indeed. (also I make no claim to objectivity with the above, that's just how I saw the film chronologically)

I'm surprised that no one has talked about how Kino Lorber Insider just recently announced on the KL Studio Classics thread that they acquired 130 titles from StudioCanal. They mentioned two other labels having deals with StudioCanal, after all, and Criterion has more clout than it did when the last SC titles went OOP...

Other way around for me. I really liked Obsession but couldn't even finish Sisters. Maybe it will win me over someday but I'm not loving its chances.

I’m with you on that! I was also thinking that with recent additions to the collection featuring Cornel Wilde and Jennifer Salt, the time could be right for the Criterion edition of Gargoyles (1972).

Criterion had a couple of months a little while back where the announcements were delayed (kinda around when Mr. Becker died), but as far as I can recall this has not been the case for quite a long time. The joke that the announcements will be "whenever they feel like it" is a bit outdated, I would say.

THE BAKER’S WIFE

Quote:
(1938, Marcel Pagnol) When his drop-dead gorgeous young wife Ginette Leclerc (the disabled femme fatale of Clouzot’s Le Courbeau) runs off with a young shepherd, middle-aged Provençal village boulanger Raimu (César of Pagnol’s Marseilles Trilogy) goes on strike, refusing to produce another loaf until she comes back. The apotheosis of the great French actor Raimu (“The greatest actor of all time” – Marlene Dietrich; “For me, the greatest actor in history” – Orson Welles), in a film once extolled as the ne plus ultra of European filmmaking – with a risqué theme unimaginable in Hollywood movies at the time – but long unseen in any form. DCP restoration. Approx. 124 min.

I would like to see announcements of Detour and Wanda soon.

Also, the folks at Criterion could be some real sweethearts and release After Hours already.

That would be fine. But that is incorrect.

Many times, the 15th was a weekend, say, and then they still didn't post until Tuesday or Wednesday. Often times, there may be a holiday BEFORE or after the 15th, and it STILL offsets by a day. It shouldn't offset the whole week because there was a minor holiday, either. As many have said many times before, they know way ahead of time what they're releasing, already have the art work, already have the press releases, and so on. Way ahead of time. And it takes one person in their marketing dept or in charge of their social media minutes to post. But they will delay by a day or even several. Not to mention they have next to zero consumer interaction.

Anyway, we simply disagree on this. This is my final post to you on the subject.

Does that mean Criterion or someone else can release them? I'm very eager to see more Buñuel on bluray.
