The extras were half the reason to move from VHS to DVD, they do add value. Director's commentaries are great, I always listen to them. i can't wait till they have video commentaries on Blu-ray like they do on HD DVD.

I don't think they should have an extra disc for extras, it should be on the same disc rather than have a big string of zeros filling 30% of the disc. Every time you waste a MB of optical storage, God kills a kitten.

Sience before bd i was a superbit fan -best pic and sound on sd dvd but almost always left extra's behind. Are they inturusting, sure but do you buy a movie or
care about blooper reels etc. My stance is if you get the movie presented in the best quality dts losless audio is part of that though uncompressed pcm or dolby true hd are nice as well.

Bottom line give me the BEST PQ and audio FIDELITY then if there's room put in the extra's but i'd sooner leave them off completely if it meant better overall
quality.

I love extras. Pretty much every time I buy or rent a new movie as soon as I'm done watching it, I go straight to the bonus features. Every once in while I actually watch behind the scene stuff even before watching the movie itself. Mostly when I have to wait for my girlfriend to come join me, which sometimes takes a while.

That's silly, it ruins the film.

Well unless you've seen it before. I usually haven't because i'm not much of a movie goer. I think it was in one of the Futurama commentaries they were discussing the plot of an episode and remarked that it didn't matter because you'd have to be crazy to listen to the commentary BEFORE watching the episode.

I love hearing the cast and crew chatting and laughing about how stuff was done, makes you appeciate filmmaking. I prefer the sit around and chat commentaries over the formal behind-the-scenes clips you get.

Default well

we are currently paying for the next generation of dvd so 2 factors to consider
A. we should get extras beyond what standard dvd is offering but only if...
1. the price is reasonable to offset the means of the extras without costing us more then we are paying now
2.The extras don`t take away from the quality of the picture encode and sound used in the film
hddvd could learn a lesson from this .
this is why we went blu in the 1st place better picture and sound and i`m sure they will refine the technology to get more on the discs but not at the cost of the best intentions of the film(picture and sound)

Do you want extras on your Blu-ray discs? Sounds like you are asking "Do you want fries with your order? Onions on your burger?"

Sure I will take some extras on the side. I don't watch all of them, but sometimes they are great. I like "The making of...." I don't care for games or trailers on a video.

What I really hate are previews or ads that I am FORCED to watch before the main menu will come up! Get rid of those!

Not looking at the extras is the same as picking a Playboy and looking only the photo spreads.

I love extras. I love the photos. If it's a good film, then I want more. I want to read the interview, I want to see the blooper reel, I want to see the deleted scenes, I want to hear from the commentary

I am hoping they will one day take all the advertisements out of movies and put them into the extras. I don't want to see "product placements." Any movie that blatently has these can never be called a "classic", it is a dated money driven production. That's what the studios need to stop doing. They are making enough money as it is.

I'm sure Sony doesn't think we are all THAT stupid. Sure there will be a MSRP of $50, but I bet you will see Spiderman 3 sell in stores for the usual price of $26.95-$27.95, like at Amazon, for a typical Sony title on Blu-ray.

I like having extras, but do agree that PQ and SQ are more important. I don't see why studios can't follow the example of the POTC discs. Have one 50 gig BD for the movie with the absolute best PQ and SQ they can fit on them, and have a second 25 gig BD of all extras. The Pirates movies were reasonably priced too, much like World Trade Center. Don't know how many of you like this idea, but what about two seperate releases? One could be just the movie on a 50 gig BD, and they could release a second set with the extras for a little more.

Other than outtakes, I rarely ever even check out the extras. All I care about is the movie itself.

Never watch the extras, with the TV box sets -- their only purpose is to delay the release

The extras disc is the one they trick me into putting in by having it in the case as the top disc in those flip cases or on the left side of the double cases. I'd never choose to buy a movie or a format because of those cool extras that I can DVR from E!

Sure, we all want the best AV quality. Duh!

But it sounds like many posters are still locked in a DVD-mindset where "extras" generally meant you had to steal bits/bandwidth from the feature film.

Folks, on BD50 we've got PLENTY of room for transparent 1080p/24-bit lossless feature presentation *and* bonus material (in hi-def!).

This is Blu-ray. It's one reason I prefer the format over HD DVD, where extras will still be forced to compete with bits used for the feature film ala traditional DVD.
