Default SD to BD releases...

I hate to ask this somewhat silly question, especially to this fanboy-ridden board... But isn't more appropriate to ask "when" something will be released on BD as opposed to "if"...

Wouldn't you assume darn near every (major or not) film will be re-released on BD at some point? Hasn't that been the trend from laser/VHS/DVD and so forth?...

I hate to say this, but in IMO, I think that the only way "every" movie (old and new) will be released on BR is when DVD is no longer being manufactured.

Not necessarily, no. There is a chance for all to be released and there is also a chance that not every film makes it to Blu.

There have been about 96,000 DVDs released, excluding Adult releases, and non-region 1 titles......

So the probability of something NOT being released on blu-ray is pretty slim if it's from a major studio etc... and very good chance that most movies people can think of, will probably be released on blu-ray.

But yeah.... I think the question is pretty silly to continuously ask anyways.

^^^ Total fanboy response...

It's just for conversation's sake. & no duh about the coming soon section. I'm talking about a broader picture here. I'm asking if one could assume... not if one knows.

I just look at movie like In Bruges, Motorcycle Diaries, The Village etc... they'd have to be released at some point. If BD player & BDs themselves continue to rise in sales... These studios would have to, knowing many of us have converted.

It is a fair assumption that most of the movies from the major Hollywood studios will eventually see a Blu-ray release. But I would not assume every dvd that ever came out will get an equivalent BD. Rights are lost, masters damaged, and some material simply would not translate that well to the Blu-ray format. There are movies that came out on VHS that have never seen a dvd release.

If Howard the Duck can make it to DVD, then it can make it to Blu-ray

Clerks on Bluray.

According to Kevin Smith, one movie you most likely won't see on Bluray for a long time for that reason!

Sounds like he was awfully tongue-in-cheek to me....

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has an idea for a special Blu-ray Disc edition of his film Chasing Amy. The film’s DVD was released by Criterion, which rejected Smith’s proposal for a 10th anniversary edition because Criterion does not double dip. However, now that Criterion is releasing Blu-rays, Smith proposes adding new extras to that edition.

“For Chasing Amy’s 10th anniversary, we wanted to put out a fat DVD with a look-back documentary and this Q&A that we had shot a couple years ago with the full cast,” Smith said. “Now we’re going, ‘Hey man, let’s do it as a Blu-ray so it won’t be double dipping. It will be for people who want to own it on Blu-ray. So it’ll have everything that was on that first DVD plus all the extras we want to bring to it.’ But I haven’t heard word back on that yet.”

Smith also joked that his first film, Clerks, shot in black and white on a shoestring budget, should be the last of his films to make it to Blu-ray.

“Clerks on Blu-ray would be a total waste of Blu-ray technology, man,” Smith said. “That’s a movie that I don’t feel needs to be on Blu-ray until Blu-ray is the only format. Then, of course, I would like to see it be on there.”

Smith is a recent convert to Blu-ray. He did not want to rebuy his whole movie collection in a new format, until Paramount gave him a 103-inch TV and Blu-ray player.

“It is the most astounding television I’ve ever seen in my life, until recently they introduced an even bigger one,” he said. “This f***er is so big it looks like one of the small screens at the Beverly Connection. It’s really big, and it sits about five feet from the end of my bed, maybe even less. Maybe two, two-and-a-half feet. I lie down in bed when I watch TV, so you’re right on top of the screen. You’re no longer watching the movie. You’re in the movie.”

As an actor, Smith doesn’t mind seeing himself in high-definition.
“The first movie I watched on Blu- ray was Live Free or Die Hard, and I was really in that movie,” he said. “So I was able to stand next to myself on screen full length and be like, ‘Wow, I’m fatter.’ It was very, very cool. So I fell in love with Blu-ray. Now I’ve been rebuying all the stuff I already have but I don’t care because now I just want to get high and watch a Blu-ray Disc.”

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter can get released on Blu-ray then anything can.

Fanboy response:
Why would you open a thread attacking users?

Asking a blu-ray releated question gets ya a blu-ray related response. We have a wishlist forum where you can ask if anything you want is coming out. Then a few posts later you attack another user

If you wanna get a proper response ask with the predetermined agenda in the question as not everyone is a "fanboy" as you put it
