Congrats! I too just pulled the trigger on another 65” Z9D. I was really going back and forth on a 75” Z9D. I was just hoping for a price drop. Then I came home today and saw that it had been dropped to $4500, but that it was sold out, I figured this was my sign. I didn’t wanna be on the other end of regret street if the 65” sold out as well. This second one is gonna replace my 55” LG 1080p set that’s 11 years now without any issues still running strong. Truth be told, the most comfy furniture in my house is where the 55” is. However, I just can’t get use to the way it looks now so small compared to the 65”. LoL. Anyways, it will be here Saturday.

Setting Smoothness at Max gives the highest resolution and least judder as the camera moves. Setting Smoothness at the lowest setting give the worst results with reduced resolution and judder.

I never use the Clear setting as I find the lower light output a different animal.

But then I've been authoritatively informed I am unaware of the existence of the Picture Adjustment control...so what do I know?
Eww...anything above Smoothness 1 is soap opera city. Max???? No way.

In my armchair expert opinion? There's absolutely no difference in motion resolution for 24p content that I can detect, not in real world viewing and not when using the motion test patterns in Spears & Munsil. As you say, I also keep seeing reviewers and other sages mention using it with 24p but it appears to have no use whatsoever.

This is taken from Rtings.com settings:

In the 'Motion' tab setting, we left the 'Motionflow' and 'Cinemotion' turned off, but if you like the motion interpolation (also named the soap opera effect), you can adjust the 'Motionflow' setting to 'Custom' and increase the 'Smoothness' slider. The 'Clearness' slider controls the image flicker control of the TV and it can help to clear up fast moving objects. This can be particularly good to use while watching fast-paced action content like sport. To know more about this feature you can click here. If you are watching a movie via 60p/60i sources (cable or satellite feeds) and notice some judder, simply set 'Motionflow' to 'True Cinema' and 'CineMotion' to 'High' to reduce judder (see the '24p Playback' section of motion to know more about this feature).

Seems their findings concur with yours Geoff. Basically use it with satellite or cable feed. I unfortunately do not have the Spears & Munsil disc anymore to use as a test. My UHD player is an Oppo 203 also.

Managed to get ahold of a 65" for $1600 and, coming from an LG C6 with a lot of banding issues, I love it. The blacks are definitely less satisfying, but bright scenes look so much more pleasing that I'm insanely happy with my switch.

Shame about the 3D, though - there's so much crosstalk that I can't imagine actually watching anything.

Funny, I just went through the reverse -- replaced a Sony SXRD rear-projection set with a Samsung UHD LED.

First new purchase of a primary display for the HT in over a decade...

3D needs to be adjusted in order to minimize crosstalk. once you do it you will be pleased.

Just as a side note, rtings says this about just about every television they review (it was said precisely about my Samsung NU8000, as well).

To what levels? I wasn't able to find much online. Played with the numbers myself and never came close to making it look okay.

I tried to watch some 3D last night and it was trash I'm sorry to say. Crosstalk was horrible. I used settings from some notable posters on AVS Forum but it didn't help at all. I even re-sync'd the Sony glasses multiple times. I'm not much a 3D fan anymore, especially when 4K UHD blu-ray came to the market in 2016. I've read some great reviews on the 3D quality of the Z9D but just didn't see it that way. All my 3D titles do have a 2D version as well so I'm good.

Yes, the 3D is kinda crappy and no settings adjustments have gotten rid of the crosstalk for me, but I've gotta say I've watched a couple of 3D things on it in recent months and quite enjoyed them, crosstalk and all.

Taken from AVS:

First the 3D settings:
3D depth adjustment :0
3D glasses brightness :medium

Best mode that shows the least amount of crosstalk:
Photo-Vivid (I don't know why but I went through all the modes) and now even bright text on a dark background yeilds very little crosstalk.

Brightness: max(non adjustable)
Color :60
Light Sensor: off
Advanced Setting:
Contrast :max
Gamma :2
Black Adjust : medium
Adv. contrast : medium
Auto local dimming :. Off (yes, I know...)
Color Temp : cool
Live Color :High
Sharpness :70
Reality Creation: manual
Resolution :40
Smooth gradation : off
Motion....Cinemotion: Off
HDR mode : auto
HDMI video range: limited
Color Space: Auto

Rtings is so bad on so many levels, that's one of the reasons. They literally copy/paste so much of their content, and they get so many settings completely wrong or misunderstood. They don't spend time with any one TV and learn the specific things. They brush over everything and also have an extreme hard-on for OLEDs.

There's also no consistency with their scoring system.

Yeah....I tried all that a while back when I saw someone mention how it magically cured the crosstalk. Guess what? Didn't work for me. And look at all those other settings, sharpness up to 70 and reality creation to 40 on top of that, it becomes an overbaked mess in the process. blech.

And enough flickering to give you a migraine.
The brighter the scene, the more bothersome the flicker.

Unwatchable for me.

Checked Best Buy’s website & it’s showing the 75” Z9D back in stock for $4,599.00. Who’s the next taker??? I bought my 2nd 65” Z9D this week cuz I thought it was gonna be sold out quickly and can’t stand how small my old 55” seems now. I waited out my impulse to grab the 75” Z. 75” Z9D Going once, going twice.....
