I think that's as far as it goes. It's horror, so I wouldn't underestimate this film, but yeesh, it looks like ass, and the fact that it's the only wide release this week, is problematic.

Weekend after thanksgiving is always dead.

I don’t know why Universal isn’t releasing Mortal Engines on the 7th. There’s no new releases that weekend.

But they let international markets have the film that week (December 5th for me).

Anyone know why these 2 weekends are so dead?

I don't mind it, because it gives me time to catch up on November's releases and do some re-watches before the end of December's releases arrive.

Weekend after thanksgiving is always dead. Not sure why there isn’t anything coming out the weekend after.

Looks like last year's 2nd weekend after Thanksgiving was also a dead one. Only 1 wide release, Just Getting Started, from Broad Green Pictures debuting with $3M and finishing with $6M.

Funny you mentioned that. Second Act was supposed to be released on the 21st but STX moved it to Christmas weekend.

It's going to flop hard. Every time I see the trailer in the theatre it doesn't look like a movie that should be released at Christmas.

It's so stupid though because if there's something people want to see they'll still go see it. It's just that they rarely give anything worth watching a chance on this weekend. The Last Samurai opened on this weekend in 2003 and grossed 24.3 Million and opened at #1. Opening at #2 was Honey which did 12.856 Million. In 2015 Krampus opened with 16.3 Million. It does not have to be a dud weekend.

I'll be doing my part to pump up the admittedly small box office receipts for Possession of Hannah Grace.

But I'm only attending because of the Regal buy 3 get 3 digital copies (the others were Venom and The Girl in the Spider's Web).

I really don't think it looks that good but I love horror movies, even if supernatural are not my favorite, so I'm considering going Thursday night. Depends how late they have showings since I work late.

It's definitely opening pretty limited but I too would love to see it so I'm hoping it can pull in solid numbers and eventually go somewhat wide.

I think it's more about longevity at the box office, considering how crowded mid-December is.
