Actually, they are. Just look at all the horror movie remakes and now remakes of comedy classics and other genres.

If you don't "roll the dice" and try something fresh and new from time to time you don't grow and eventually you become stagnant and stuck in a rut. Then you lose focus and things start to become routine and mundane. Eventually you stop caring about what you produce and everything turns to crap. Just look at all the Friday the 13 movies that came after the part 2. The same with Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Superman, The Pink Panther, etc. Eventually, Hollywood will have to try something new because they are going to run out of idea to copy and steal from.
