I find Emma Stone to be one of the most whip-smart, witty and likable actresses working right now. No offense to Ryan Gosling, but she was the heart and soul of LA LA LAND and was likewise excellent in BATTLE OF THE SEXES. She held her own amongst the boys in both SUPERBAD and ZOMBIELAND and took what could have been a forgettable teen comedy like EASY A and turned in a star-making performance.

I realize this is the unpopular thread and posters are free to loathe her, but I felt compelled to chime in with my support as I think she's terrific...and I can't wait to see her in THE FAVOURITE (about the only film I want to see in what looks to be a pretty dismal holiday season for movies).

While I enjoyed it (mainly because of the cast) it was basically just Inarritu crying about comic book and blockbuster films messing over indie films and dramas. Which is bs.

I swear, Hollywood can put a 10 year ban on ALL blockbuster type films and all those dramas and smaller films would not get that huge of an increase at the BO. The general audience just doesn't care for a lot of those films or doesn't feel the need to leave home to see them in a theater. Wait for rental or streaming basically.

A lot of people I know who would be considered part of the general audience refer to a lot of those films as "movies where people just talk". Basically most of those films are just not a big draw to get people to pay ever increasing ticket prices.

That's why I love how awhile back Paul Thomas Anderson stated that he really enjoys superhero films and the other directors crying about them basically need to get over it.

Ok, I've got some actual real "unpopular movie opinions". So prepare to have your mind blown. Here goes:

- I do not like Lawrence of Arabia at all. I find it is highly overrated and very boring. The acting is alright, but the controversial stuff is really not that controversial.
- I have not seen Taxi Driver ever. And I don't know that I particularly want to.
- I cannot stand Ingmar Bergman and I find him highly overrated.
- Speed 2: Cruise Control is in my top ten movies of all time.
- I do not like Some Like it Hot and don't see what is so great about that movie.
- I find most new horror movies god awful and a waste of time, I find most horror movies from the '80s also god awful and a waste of time, and to me, horror may be one of the 3 worst genres in movie

- The Dark Tower was my second favorite movie of last year.
- Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi was my favorite movie of last year.
- I prefer T2: Judgement Day and Terminator Genysis to The Terminator and I actually do not like The Terminator.
- I have not seen any of the Rambos and don't ever intend to.
- I don't like '80s action films from Arnold, Stallone, or whomever (you know, the ones played on basic tv on the weekends).
- I generally don't like a lot of the Oscar-nominated movies.
- Brokeback Mountain is in my top 5 worst movies ever.
- Tombstone is a lousy movie and pretty much plays like a Gunsmoke TV movie of the week.
- I generally like Straight Talk and will freely admit that.

could you elaborate on why you like Speed 2? What is actually good about it?

While I don't agree with most of your stuff (big surprise right?) I do rate Star Wars Last Jedi very highly and I also hate many Best Picture winners and nominated films....

I'm not sure I can elaborate on why exactly I like Speed 2: Cruise Control so much or why I think it's better than Speed. At least not from a critical level/technical standpoint. I know I have always liked it since I saw it in theaters and then grew to love it more and more over the years due to personal reasons. But there is nothing substantial or concrete I can mention that makes me love it like directing, acting, cinematography, and what not.

This one I can actually relate to. I have seen a small portion of the first Rambo on TV but that’s it. I think the Rambo movies were a little before my time to really enjoy them.

*sad face* at not liking the horror genre.

Most of your list of opinions isn't too crazy compared to others around here but I personally don't care for the use of "overrated" but that's fine if you don't like "Lawrence of Arabia".

The one thing I heavily disagree with is "Tombstone" being a lousy movie.

As far as you loving "The Dark Tower" I'm curious as to if you've ever read the books? Now a movie should stand on it's own even if it's an adaptation but I was heavily disappointed with that one. Even if I don't compare it to King's series I still found it to be fairly weak.

I read the books (they are my favorite book series) and thought the movie adaption was excellent. I loved the way they went with the movie and the neat little twist to it, which is totally a King thing to do. I don't think there is any way to do a film adaption following the books linearly especially with regards to that first one. There are many who read the first book and never read another one after that. It's not the best book to adapt straight.

I can honestly say I don't agree with a single thing you said. But that's okay. It would be a very boring world if we all thought alike.

A lot of the people you know sound like morons, no offense. Directors like Alejandro González Iñárritu have the right to speak out against crappy filmmaking like the marvel movies. General audiences in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and to a lesser extend in the 00s paid to see dramas with scripts. Maybe people are getting dumber in the 10s, who knows

Nope. They're not idiots (well a few might be haha). They do like dramas and other non action type of films but as I already mentioned they don't feel the urge or need to see them on the big screen.

Although I do like Inarritu's films he still comes off as a bit of a crybaby and pretentious to boot.
