Anyone have First Blood UHD or Pacific Rim Uprising UHD?
With first blood, I'm having major freezing issues (can't even finish movie). With Pacific Rim Uprising, had a couple minor freezes. I returned both discs. Having same issue with new discs? This is obviously a player issue. I contacted Philips support (through chat) and they couldn't resolve the issue. They're going to pass my issue on to the technical department and will get back to me in 3 to 5 business days. I hope this is an issue that can be resolved through firmware update ![]() Anyways, just curious if anyone else having freezing issues? I have the Bdp7302 Sams Club model. |

I wouldn't be so quick to blame this on the player as many people do. more times than not, studios change or alter the copy protection and then some players have to react to it and give a firmware and people think it's the players fault. sometimes those firmware updates adversely affect other movies too. the Philips hasn't had an update in a while, so, it's been intact for a while and I've not had any issues with it and I have almost all of the major releases this year and last year. another think to consider, if your bd-live is enabled, many times, that is the problem, simply disabling that feature in the player resolves many believed player issues. keep us posted. |

Thanks tcripe & solarrdadd for your reply.
I tried disabling bd live, no luck. I never had any issues playing any discs (bd,dvd, uhd) until now, and so far it's just been these 2 movies? Like right now I have First Blood in and it's just frozen locked. Can't reverse or fast forward, I can only stop. When it's frozen, after a few seconds, the bottom 1/5 of the screen gets pixelated? Forgot to mention my xbox one s plays First Blood just fine so I know it's not the disc. Guess I'll just wait 3 to 5 business days and see what Philips tech support says. I really do like this player, just hoping to get this issue resolved. Thanks again Edit: this is what ii looks like when frozen after a few seconds. [Show spoiler]

I went ahead and set up my Xbox one s to my main set up. I'm playing First Blood right now and so far no problems at all and I've already past the parts that it would always freeze at. This tells me (I think) it's got to be the player.
Edit: Just finished First Blood on Xbox one s, not one hiccup. Last edited by dcforsyth; 11-30-2018 at 10:58 PM. |

I saw that as well. If you look a little further in the thread, another poster is having his with the disk on his LG and Sony. Sounds like there might me some bad disks out there..... interesting. Seems almost like a Ready Player One situation again.

I don't believe it's the disc in this situation, the disc plays flawlessly on Xbox.
Since I already hooked up the Xbox, I unplugged the Philips and will plug back in tomorrow and see if anything happens (doubt it). Don't know how to do a hard reset on this unit, googled it and couldn't find anything. Last night when chatting with support, they had me reset the unit (which I had done before contacting them). But I don't think that's a hard reset because the latest firmware was still there. Usually (I believe) when you do a hard reset, you have to update the firmware again. I'm not bitter, sheet happens, just want to get resolved before warranty runs out. |

I was watching American Assassin last night and it froze. I tried going back and replaying the chapter but kept freezing at the same spot. Stopped the disc and tried going straight to a later chapter but that didn't work. Took the disc out and looked for prints or scratches. Perfect condition. Put the disc in again and it played perfectly.

I noticed the site reviewer for the movie says he had problems with the disc and had to clean it to get it to work right.
the reviewer doesn't mention what player he was using. you could pm him to find out. "Note: I realized after I published this review I had forgotten to mention an anomaly I encountered. The first time I tried to play the disc, I encountered some freezing and/or stuttering from circa 47:43 to around 47:48. This actually began with the sound dropping first and then the image freezing. Interestingly, in rewinding, the disc smoothly passed over the information (in reverse, obviously) it wouldn't play "going forward". I tried stopping the disc and restarting and it did the same thing. I examined the underside and didn't see anything that might be causing the problem, but cleaned the disc anyway, and on rebooting it, it played fine that time. I'm mentioning this only in case someone else encounters anything similar." so, I do think it's possible this is a batch of bad discs as I see other folks with different brands are having trouble with it. I don't want to have people get the impression it's a Philips player Only issue or something like that. ![]() Last edited by solarrdadd; 12-01-2018 at 08:49 PM. |

I just bought one from WalMart on Friday and haven't had a problem at all. Played some 4K relaxation video with music on You Tube that was over 7 hours long and it played fine. Watched District 9 on regular Blu-ray, not 4k ultra disc, and that played fine as well. It replaced a Sony UBP-X700 that didn't last a week without freezing up, flickering screen, wi-fi problems, etc.
The only problem I have with the Phillips is that after you turn it off, you'll have to setup the wi-fi when you turn it back on. Every time. I don't understand why it doesn't hold it in memory just like pretty much all others.. |

Since my freezing issues with First Blood, I've watched several uhd's, bd's and even some dvd's with no problems until I put Ready Player One uhd in. This disc freezes every time at the 49/50 minute mark? tcripe (if you follow this thread), I noticed you mentioned having the exact same issue at the exact same spot from a rental from Redbox on the RPO thread. Wondering if you since purchased this disc or not and if so if you're still having same issue?
Anyways, contacted Philips support again this time by phone (they didn't respond to my previous inquiry like they said they would in 3 to 5 business days). The rep had me put a blank usb flash drive in. At first, I thought this did the trick as First Blood played at a scene selection that in the past would never even start to play. Unfortunately, as I was talking to rep, same freezing issues. I'm posting this experience in case someone else has these problems. First, I didn't realize the warranty is ONLY 90 days. Second, the rep was polite and helpful. Third, the rep is putting in for a replacement once I email them my receipt (even though warranty has expired). I'll reiterate,I really like this player. I think I just got unlucky. I'll keep you all posted (for those who care) on how everything works out. May be awhile, as the rep informed me it might take 3 to 5 business days again ![]() EDIT: Forgot to mention Ready Player One played flawlessly on Xbox. It's interesting to me that you're Xbox One plays all of your disks no problem. From my understanding the Xbox One's are notorious for not reading many different disks.

Well, just got back from Best Buy. Put disc in, went to section that always froze, played right through no problem
![]() This is telling me it's the disc/discs (I think/hope) ![]() Now I'll return my First Blood disc to Amazon again and hope for same results ![]() I'll let Philips support know to hold off on everything (if I hear from them). Instead of having bad luck with player, maybe I've just had bad luck with discs ![]() Thanks everyone for your inputs and advice I really appreciate it ![]() PS: I'm still confused why my Xbox played these 2 movies just fine ![]() |
