First act would be the train journey and introduction to the characters and the world, which would end with the train crashing and them getting to the mansion for safety. Second act would play out like John Carpenter's The Thing except the characters are isolated and holed-up in this creepy Gothic mansion a la Hill House, where they're unsure of what's happening with tension and paranoia abound. Third act would be a frantic fight for survival with the Zombies overrunning the mansion, Zombie Dogs, Bats, Licker etc but played straight Horror not action, and ending with the climactic reveal and cliffhanger regarding the Umbrella Corporation. So simple. |

As you said, a lot of video game movie productions become over complicated, even at script stage. Or they make drastic changes just to put their own stamp on it. I get that writers and directors want some creative freedom and don't want to be a slave to the source material but some of the changes made are moronic. A lot of people should just stay away from adaptations entirely. |

It shouldn't be hard to make a movie out of RE. The game itself was very cinematic and heavily influenced by horror movies. Most videogame movies fail because they start out as a licence or franchise right from the start and end up being assembled as disposable box-office product that has to tick all the formula boxes.
I liked the first film for what it was. It at least maintained a little bit of the horror elements, but after that it became a low rent sci-fi action series. I won't blame Jovavich as those movies would not of been any better with a different actress. I was surprised at just how terrible the series became because while Anderson has a shitty rep as a director, I thought Event Horizon and Soldier were solid entertainment. It's not like Marcus Nispel or Jonathan Liebesman who have never made a watchable movie. |

I always enjoyed the movies. I knew they were there own thing that just borrowed stuff from the games. As for the reboot being RE7 im very eh about it. Was my least favorite of the main games. Hoping its just a one off or will tie in later and the Chirs DLC seems to be setting up something. So hopefully RE8 goes back to the main story. Instead of filler.
