Default The Umbrella Academy (Netflix)

The Umbrella Academy is an upcoming American television series developed by Steve Blackman for Netflix. It is an adaptation of the comic book series The Umbrella Academy created by Gerard Way, and published by Dark Horse Comics and is set to premiere on Netflix in 2019.

The Umbrella Academy is a dysfunctional family of superheroes — The Monocle (Colm Feore), Spaceboy (Tom Hopper), The Kraken (David Castañeda) , The Rumor (Emmy Raver-Lampman), The Séance (Robert Sheehan), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), The Horror, and The White Violin (Ellen Page) — who work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Also starring Mary J. Blige.

I can't wait for this. I mean ... Ellen Page! And if Robert Sheehan is allowed to do his own thing and be fun like his iconic role in Misfits, I'm gonna be thrilled.

* Some sources say it's 2018, others say 2019. We'll see.

I interviewed one of the ALTERED CARBON cinematographers a few months back, and the more recently that show's VFX supervisor. Each of them are also doing UMBRELLA and sounded super-excited about it.

High praise in the Washington Post - Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is even weirder than the comic. It’s an absolute must see.

It'll probably still be mixed on rotten tomatoes because they aggregate so few reviews.

This is as good as it gets. I am one of the people that thinks there are too many superhero movies and TV Series now but this one stands out on his own. I am not sure if it`s connected to Marvel or DC but it feels original and refreshing. Ellen Page is amazing.

I just finished watching it. I really enjoyed it. Really made me itch for each episode. Thought everyone was really good, especially the kid that played Number Five. Hope a lot of people watch this. Would love a second season.

I’ve never read the comics and heard nothing about this show until tonight. I watched episode 1 and really enjoyed it. It reminds me of the Doom Patrol in a lot of ways. I’m definitely Italy going to watch the rest of the series.

Just starting episode 6. Episode 5, "The Day that Wasn't" is one of the finest hours of television I've ever seen. They need to invent new Emmy categories to honor this series. I would put Umbrella Academy in the same "transcends the genre" category as Watchmen, Unbreakable, & The Incredibles. Yes, that good.

First Russian Doll, now this? Man, Netflix is killin' it this month.

Dangit. Over-saturation of superhero movies was probably my #1 reason for not watching this. Combine this with the great reviews here and I basically have no reason to not watch.

You just cost me 13 hours! (or however long it is)

Yeah I binged the whole thing. Does anyone else think Hazel was channeling John Goodman. I just wished they hadn't

and they could have gotten to the point a bit quicker with Klaus. I feel like they dragged his story line out just to have more gay-time in the show.

Just finished, and I'll have to double down on my previous comment: The Umbrella Academy is one of the finest tv series I've ever seen. "The Day That Wasn't" was spectacular, and then "The Day That Was" surpassed it, and from there on, every episode built from the ones before it to become something more. I already know I'm gonna be rewatching the hell out of this show, forever. This is some next-level greatness.

Sorry Avengers, but the best superhero movie of 2019 has already arrived. It's ten hours long and exclusive to Netflix.

Seems like there's a Doom Patrol vs. Umbrella Academy thing going on around the internet. Both series premiered this weekend, both are quality shows, and both are concepts about weird superheroes (UA was actually inspired in part by DP).

I've watched five episodes of The Umbrella Academy so far, and I think it's GREAT! I have to say, so far, it's one of the best superhero shows I've ever seen. I've only watched one episode of Doom Patrol (unfortunately, it's a weekly series), it was pretty good, but I need a lot more before thinking it's better than Umbrella Academy.
