Post CES 2019 speculation & the facts

What new products can we expect to see at CES 2019?

Since my friend Jack Wayman (RIP) created the the CES Convention in 1967 it has been the event where all of the TV manufacturers announce the next generation of TVs along with other a/v equipment. Jack founded the Consumer Electronics Association in 1963 and he started the CES Convention in 1967.

Here's a picture of Jack on one of his visits to my showroom.

Here's a few rumors to start this thread's discussion.

LG Electronics/LG Display:
  • 8K 88" OLED TV
  • Second Gen a9 processor
  • new line-up of LG OLED TVs and Super LCD/LED and the entry level LCD/LED TVs
  • New Sound bars and BD players
  • New Meridian audio devices
  • A new LG OLED display

Sony Consumer Products:
  • New line of X900, X850 and the X800 sereis of Bravia UHD TVs
  • New BD player series
  • 8K TV?

Samsung Electronics:
  • More 8K TV models
  • QD OLED TVs
  • Micro or Mini QD TVs
  • New BD players and sound bars

Sharp Electronics:

While planning and scheduling my CES agenda I noticed Sharp was just listed with a very large exhibit directly across from Samsung. What would you think Sharp would display in this large exhibit space? Maybe the new 2nd generation of 8K TVs built by Sharp Electronics. They showed them at IFA end of August 2018 in Germany.

Panasonic/Technics:

Panasonic's 2019 OLED and LCD/LED TVs?

New Technics products?

I don't expect to see any new BD players as we just got the UB820 and UB9000 (UB9000 is exclusively through Value Electronics)

TCL, Hisence, Vizio and other tier 2 brands will also show off the new crop of TVs for the 2019 model year.

I'm arriving at CES two days before the show opens to attend all of the press conferences. I'll be reporting live and directly from the press conferences on this thread with the news the moment they break.

I've read LG is working on 21:9 TVs with adjustable speakers to the sides in order to be able to switch between 16:9 and scope content. Perhaps we'll be seeing that at CES?

Anyway I'm anxious to know what Sony has in store for us. I'm hoping for something that will finally dethrone the Z9D but I wouldn't be too surprised if such a thing won't happen. At least not next year.

My wish would be a Sony 85" LCD with BMD or perhaps a Mini LED (guess it's too soon for MicroLED). Along with 100% P3 and 4000 peak brightness.

Here's a few more advancements to look forward to that will likely be shown at CES 2019:

- Top Emission WRGB OLED panels from LGD
*Top Emission would increase the peak luminance, improve electrical efficiency and increase the color volume.

- ATSC 3.0, where, when and what will it bring us? Two-way feedback, Second Screen content, UHD/HDR?

- 5G Wireless service, where, when and what services will it carry? Cell phone, Wi Fi, cable service delivery to the home, ATSC 3.0?

- HDR10+, any new Hollywood or streaming support?

I am hoping for:

1. Mini-LED TV from Sony that favors black levels over viewing angles.
2. Sony higher range UHD player that has dolby vision and analog out.
3. Some more micro-led prototypes at UHD.

1. Definitely. I'm all for it, though I wouldn't be too disappointed if we would have to wait until 2020.
2. As long as it has the build of the X800/1000, I say bring it.
3. Can you say Sony CLEDIS...

Finally.

That would certainly get me more interested in potentially owning an OLED (by Sony) one day.

Look at the conferences for home entertainment:
  • The Future of TV: From Primetime to Multi-Platforms
Television 3.0 is here. Somewhere between Netflix, Amazon, the Internet TV App, cable and viewer platforms resides the future of what was once known as television. How media, advertising and technology companies position themselves around "the set” is the question.
  • Internet TV and OTT: Programming Everywhere
The proliferation of TV technologies is pushing video to an unlimited audience. The television industry has merged into mega-conglomerates and invested billions of dollars in additional programming. This is a new golden age for TV programming and 24/7 viewing.
  • The future of smart entertainment: Consumers in control
With the innovation and ubiquity of devices, content, and connectivity, one thing has become clear, consumers are in control. They now enjoy unparalleled freedom when it comes to selecting media & entertainment options – and their expectations are at an all-time high.

LG will reportedly showcase a rollable OLED TV and a foldable phone at next year’s CES event which is due to take place in January, 2019. This information on this has come from a new report out of Engadget which credits “seen internal documents” that apparently detail the various product categories LG will be exhibiting at the event

source android headlines

Quote:
Background: In itself, the suggestion LG will present a rollable OLED TV at CES is barely even news as the company first started demonstrating this display technology at the same event in 2016. Even more recently, LG demonstrated a more fuller and padded out product at last year’s CES event that uses the same technology. So on its own the fact that LG will once again show off a rollable display is probably more of an expectation, than a surprise. However, what’s worth noting here is the report suggests the internal documents that have been seen allude to the likelihood the rollable display will be a lot more integral to the event proceedings. In other words, it might not just be on show like it has been in the past, but might be one of the products leading the company’s main presentation. Which in turn is adding to the further suggestion the product is now in a more market-ready state and LG might be planning to use CES 2019 as a precursor to the rollable OLED TVs going on general sale later in the same year. This would mark a significant change in the rollable display lifespan to date, with the technology moving firmly out of the prototype stage and to a consumer product state. Furthermore, if 2019 is the year in which LG makes its rollable OLED TVs readily available then this would also highlight an accelerated time-frame as based on 2017 reports it has previously been expected 2020 was when LG would begin mass production of these displays - specifically 55 and 75-inch versions.

Thanks for posting this reliable leak from android headlines!

I've had the privilege of seeing LG's roll up OLED display in a few iterations.

Hey, don't knock it. People will always need doorstops so it's good to see Samsung coming up with some new models.

Can't confirm a 2019 Samsung BD player.

LG just announced all 2019 Super UHD LCD/LED and OLED TVs will support WiSA wireless speakers in stereo, surround sound and all the way to Dolby Atmos audio configurations.

Even though I only buy Sony, I would welcome other brands to start venturing into true 4K projector territory. Sony has been dominating this for too long now, some healthy competition is most welcome.

As far as I know, JVC is the only one to follow right now. Their new 4K line up (no pixel shift except for their 8K projector) was supposed to launch before the end of the year. Unfortunately for them, it has been delayed until sometime Q1 2019 due to technical difficulties.

Must be nice to be able to actually be there in person.

Any way I'm looking forward to it. And I hope there will be a Sony rumor mill going these last few weeks of the year...
