Ok, you want a fun motorcycle fact? I learned this one in the class:

30% of deaths on motorcycles are caused when the rider tries to take a turn and fails to complete it successfully.

You get that? 30% are caused by the rider's own fault. No other vehicles are involved. Crazyness!

robinandtami, when you ride, do you ride for fun like sightseeing on the backroads or do you use it for commutes/errands? Do you ride alone or do you have a crew? And god damn it, I'll say it again: Your bike looks sweeeeeeeeeeet.

I say hold onto it for a bit! Watch, soon after you sell your bike you're going to crave a ride and you'll want to buy another. Don't rush into selling.

Well, you didn't exactly say why they didn't complete the turn successfully.

Maybe they were doing just fine, until they got hit by a bus, and then the turn was unsuccessful.

I've wanted a motorcycle for the past few years, and will probably get one eventually, just for weekend sightseeing/relaxing rides.

Believe it or not... There's a number of riders, that in my book. Should not ride, they barely know how to ride safely.

I said no other vehicles are involved in those 30%. In those cases it's solely the rider who fails to complete a turn which leads to death. It can be going too fast or trying to brake in the middle of a turn. But as I said, it's the rider alone which makes it so appalling. There are no busses, no cars, no pedestrians, no rocks or puddles on the road. Just a normal turn which should be easy that turns into a tragedy.

It depends on how quick you want to sell it. I'd suggest starting at $5K/OBO. Bike looks like it is in great condition.

I should have ridden my 03 Z1000 today, but I had too much crap to lug in to work.

As for selling it, mine is sadly low milage too, but it is paid for and a blast to ride, so I am not parting with it.

First off, let me apologize in advance for the upcoming rant...

Personally, I enjoy riding motorcycles. It's quite relaxing (when not in rush hour) and can be quite comfortable if you get the right bike for you. However, there are many car/van/SUV/truck drivers out there who don't pay attention to other cars, let alone motorcycles, so driving in heavy traffic is a real spin on the roulette wheel, unfortauntely.

As for the mortality rate on motorcycles.... yes, there will be accidents here and there, but I'm sure most of the people who die riding these motorcycles think they're racing them. On a daily basis, I see morons flying over the Gandy bridge at over 120 mph on their motorcycle. I also see these same people FLYING through the I-275/I-4 Interchange (a.k.a. Malfunction Junction) at over 90 mph. These are the people who have no respect for the road, the other drivers, themselves, or physics. This is why the mortality rate is so high... I don't care HOW good you are at popping wheelies on a highway, eventually you'll meet your maker.

I know this certainly happened to me!! My wife wants me to buy a new motorcycle (probably because her father has one), but refuse until we have children, and they grow up.

I ride alone. None of my firends have bikes. It's about 50/50 as to whether I ride for pleasure or purpose.

I wonder how many of the 30% that die in single bike accidents are safe riders and how many are like the guy I saw texting on his rice rocket on the highway the other day?

Used to want a bike when I was a teen, though the kind I was interested in is the Japanese bikes that look high-tech and are super fast. I was never really interested in more classic and old fashion Harley kind of motorcycles.
