Everyone involved gets a portion. The studio who releases the title, the filmmakers (producers, directors, writers, actors,) the retailer you purchase from and so on. It's much larger then just a few select people profiting.

Most of it goes to the producer and the studio. The studio is the one who is in control and essentially backs it, but the producer is the one who finances it and is the head honcho on any production.

Make no mistake the director is under the producer.

From there it trickles down to everyone from the actors to the writers to the store in which you bought it

I read somewhere that the costs to manufacture a new DVD is under a $1. It was more once DVD became the standard and is probably much closer to the 50 cent mark. I cant imagine Blu-ray costing more then a couple dollars a disk.

The bulk of the $10-15 profits per disk is returned to the studios.

Retailer, studio, distributor, royalties to IP holders in the format (Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic etc...), royalties to IP holders of audio/video CODECs. There are probably a few more, but most of the money goes to the studio who then pay royalties and if the producer/director are on a crazy contract that they get a point or number of points from home video sales (these contracts are extremely rare and only Hollywood royalty get them), then the studio will pay them their money.

So who are the IP holders? Is it the companies in the Blu-ray Disc Association? Does anyone know how much they get per disc?

Is there a break down list of where the consumers money goes to available online?

Oh yeah and very funny supersix4.

I imagine Mr. Spielberg is one of the few on that list.

Oh yeah and very funny supersix4.

Each party involved whether it be actor/studio/producer/independent financees, etc..... all work out their own deal.... Tom Cruise can make 0.5% of all Disk-sales for one movie, and maybe 0.75% for another one..... It all depends on what deal their agents make.....

Some films have to give more to the studios just to convince them to distribute the film in the first place.......

There is no "One Size Fits All" Deal, so there is no right answer..... some people may get a lot from the video sales, others may get nothing, but take more from the box-office sales

Default Dumbest question EVER

Sorry Pompeylad...but your question might be one of the dumbest I've read. But I will humor you and answer your question in the same spirit in which you asked your question.

Who profits and where does the money go?

Actually all of the profits from a Blu-Ray disc go to the "So-ne-jap-tokyo" people of Japan. Thousands of years ago one of their elders was walking along a remote trail up the mountain one day and saw a shimmering, blue flash of light in the distance so he decided to check it out. After a long, hard, uphill climb he came upon a small crystal buried in the ground. It shined a bright, turquoise blue as if the light was coming from within. He picked it up and prayed to his God called "ForeightyP"" known to the tribes people as just "Pee". His God told him to sell it to the "So-ne-jap-tokyo" people because he did not like the color blue...he only like the color red. The "So-ne-jap-tokyo" saw this crystal and new they could make wonderful, expensive things with it, the Blu-Ray player being one of them.

I hope this answers your question

Consumers profit, because they get the highest quality as far as movies go.
