Years ago in Dallas I was one of the first to pick up the HDTV signals from the local stations. I also had an HD capture card on my home theater PC setup and recorded a few shows including Alias. I had the entire series captured but at the time didn't have the drive space to maintain it at the 1080p broadcast size (~8GB, this was back in early 2000s). Unfortunately I decided to down-convert them to DVD resolution. I actually ended up making a whole DVD set of the series with menus and everything (using some cheesy dvd authoring software). I sold it on ebay for a few bucks and moved on. What I wouldn't give to have those full HD broadcast caps again...
At least in addition to my Rambaldi dvd box set I have a 1080p h264 rip of the whole series.

Disney have a hard time releasing their own vintage material on Bluray so it would seem we need a miracle to get Alias. It is available to buy in HD on Amazon but I'm not into downloading so unless the price drops to a ridiculously low level (as it has for the Young Sherlock Holmes movie) we'll never get this great show in HD.
Even their films like 20000 Leagues and The Black Hole remain download only

For all that is holy Disney, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea please. Thanks in advance!

I finally gave up and bought Season 1 HD on Amazon for 10 bucks a few days ago. IF the mouse ever comes to it's senses, I'll buy the Blu ray. The HD version, for anyone on the fence, looks good; it has it's flaws but it can look really nice too.

Default Jennifer Garner is Sydney Bristow.

Alias: The Complete Series is available for $24.99 on iTunes at present. I'd pay multiples times that for a proper Blu-ray treatment to be given of course. In the interim, I did take the plunge. It's been on sale for a number of days now. Those interested in something to tide them over may want to take advantage.

Just finished cataloging each season in DVD Profiler and My Movies. When cataloging each season I included an "Episode List" and "Episode Guide" within the "Overview" section of each profile. Link action to my online profiles for each season provided below. To view my profile for the TV series as a whole see here.

And why not, lets wrap things up here with some eye candy. I'll be watching this outside Apple's ecosystem as is the case with all my other iTunes purchases. Screenshots of the Blu-ray menus I worked up provided below. Went with a simple Top Menu for Title selection. Gets the job done nicely I think.

(And please refrain of course from discussing the process involved to author said content to Blu-ray. Such discussions aren't permitted here on the forums. There are plenty of other forums where such things can be openly discussed.)

I've just finished re-watching season 1 on Amazon. The show was edited in HD from the start and it was great to see it that way. But something seemed a little off, not quite as good as I remembered. And now I find out that almost half of the songs were replaced on streaming services (and Itunes)!!

That's a total deal breaker for me, so I'm going back to my dvds, the music is far too important to me!

I may just have to port over the audio tracks from the DVD's. Always blows when finding out original music was replaced. I agree. Beyond lame.

Yeah, I think I'll get the HD files and do the same. That's what I did before with Everwood and Party of Five. There's an app called PluralEyes that's very useful to sync two audio tracks. It was a little tricky with tv rips but it should be a lot easier with dvd tracks.

Oh I just had a quick look at random episodes from seasons 4 & 5 and everything seems intact. The first 3 seasons are definitely missing a lot of the music though. I guess their licence for those seasons expired when it came to streaming, but the last 2 seasons weren't affected.

Did the audio from the DVDs sync well with the iTunes files, or were there differences in how the commercial breaks were handled (which caused the audio to fall out of sync)?

Assuming what's on Amazon is 5.1 surround sound, and the DVD's are 2.0 stereo. Possible for someone to do a fan edit perhaps? If they can't do it for us, time to do it ourselves!

I checked and only the very first episode has the exact same run time. Everything afterwards has different timing of the commercial breaks, so, it is too much work IMO.

Not sure why the first episode is the exception. But the good news is you can sync the commentary track of that ep.

I actually extracted the audio from the season 2 & 3 dvds for my rewatch last year and synced it perfectly to the Amazon version. If the itunes version is the same, I can share those audio files with you.

I didn't do season 1 because I only realized the music was different at the start of season 2.

I only checked season 1 - iTunes version - and you only checked seasons 2 and 3, Amazon version. Maybe season 1 is unusual.

I can’t say I really want to test more, and I do have all the DVDs so could extract the audio myself, but maybe as an experiment, send me an audio of a season 2 episode and I’ll see if lays in perfectly. And then I’ll report back. Are your audio tracks aac? I use aac.

None of the episodes from the seasons 2 & 3 dvds matched the Amazon version, so I'm pretty sure it's the same for season 1. I had to resync all of them with the help of PluralEyes.
And all 3 seasons have a lot of the music replaced, only 4 & 5 are intact on Itunes/Amazon etc.

The new tracks are ac3, I kept the original format from the dvds.
