I have an LG, should I choose auto 2 or turn it off and let the tv do the upscaling? I always thought the player was responsible for the upscaling.

Well I got most of my settings set up but I'm not sure about these:
Screen Settings: Output video Resolution (Auto or 4k) 24p Output (Auto or On) YCbCr/RGB (HDMI) (Auto, 4:2:2, 4:4:4 or RGB) HDMI Deep Color (Auto or Off) Cinema Conversion Mode (Auto or Video) Pause Mode (Auto or Frame) Any guidance? I'll be using the player strictly for UHD discs. |

So if I just leave the DV setting on when I'm not playing a disc that supports DV, I'm essentially not getting HDR at all? This is annoying. Not a huge deal really and I like the player a lot for the cost, but it can't be a huge undertaking for Sony to just push an update to switch automatically. |

How do I know how my TV handles DV content if I can't compare it to the HDR10 version? And what if my TV doesn't handle it great? Many seem to have some issues with grey letterbox bars. So maybe for some titles I actually might want to view the HDR10 version. Ideally, the setting should be Off/Auto. Auto of course switching to Dolby Vision automatically when present, and off only displaying HDR10. |

Depends on the TV. I usually use the player’s 4:4:4 if I use something like Vizio and older Samsung and older LG. With the new Samsung Q series of this year and LG Tvs with Alpha processor, I use 4:2:2 (4:2:0 if available)!and let the TV do the chroma upsampling.

Thanks. I was reading this elsewhere:
"UHD Blu-Ray is served as 4K @24Hz, 8bit, YUV420, Rec.709 and HDR UHD Blu-Ray is 4K @24Hz, 10bit, YUV420, Rec.2020 the exact setup that can't be send via HDMI to a TV. So instead of sending the content untouched to the TV, you have to do some chroma upsampling on the media device and upsample from YUV420 to YUV422 or YUV44 or RGB (if the framerate allows it) then send it to the TV where another conversion will take place." So it sounds like since some conversion has to take place anyways, letting the player convert to 4:4:4 should be the best option? What about deep color? Auto or Off? |

Deep colour? I’ve never seen any bluray with deep colour but I always put it on Auto just in case |

I'm pretty certain blu-rays don't have deep color, but don't UHD discs have deep color, or am I mistaken about that? I'll only be using this player for UHD discs, not blu-rays. I'll be using my main blu-ray player for regular blu-rays. So that being said, should I just keep it on auto?

Well, I watched my first UHD on the x700 tonight - Escape from New York by Studio Canal. It played flawlessly.
However, I ran into 2 issues. Firstly, while trying to adjust my set a bit and going back and forth between HDR10 and Dolby Digital, and pausing/rewinding/playing/pausing a bunch of times, the player locked up on me. The disc was Valerian. The player clearly didn't like me going back and forth to view the same shots repeatedly. I couldn't stop the disc, eject, or even turn off the player. I had to unplug it to reset it. Not a good start. Also, it seems my TV does absolutely dreadful with Dolby Vision. Spent hours trying the three different Dolby Vision modes on my 2016 LG LCD set, and all three modes had major issues. I think I may not be able to use Dolby Vision on this set sadly. HDR10 is handled far better on my TV. Very disappointed with that. |

So, if the output is set to auto and the upscale is set to off, what exactly happens? Is the source passed through unmolested? Is that the best option to choose? Would that upscale 1080P sources to 4K? But, it would upscale everything to 4K, even DVDs, right? I'm at a loss here. The Sony manual was of no use to me in this regard.
