No, still had it on Auto. As for Digital Audio Output, Dolby/DTS are set to Bitstream and BD-Video Secondary Audio is set to off. DRC is set to off also

Loudness has nothing to do with the player. Air Force One is less loud than most movies, this is because the movie has better audio dynamic range.

Thanks for the input! With this I'm not as surprised, but I expected a lot more from Pacific Rim. Same principle though, I assume?

is your tv decoding the audio playback track correctly? Dolby for Dolby DTS for DTS etc?

Pretty much but because I haven’t watched Pacific Rim for quite awhile, I can’t remember how it sounds (loudness wise) compared to other movies.

Other reference quality dynamic range can be found in most Disney releases.

yes, it is. I'm going to keep trying some other Dolby titles just to see if my expectations for these two titles were too high. The Jurassic Park DTS:X mix is as phenomenal as it was when I used the LG UP970 player, I'll try some other DTS:X mixes out as well

After turning off the 7.1 compression and plugging the UB820 directly into the TV's HDMI port (while still using Z9F via HDMI ARC), it is noticeably louder. Thanks so much for the help everyone!

EDIT: I heard the improvements on Air Force One and put in Pacific Rim to retry the Atmos mix, and holy Christ my living room is shaking. That's what I'm talking about!

Disney uses industry standard set by SMPTE with regards to sound dynamic range. Too many studios no longer adhere to the standard creating this loudness war just like radio stations.

That's impressive. I've never heard of anybody having three luxurious home theaters. If you're financially blessed like that, you might as well enjoy it.

It's not that we have significant finical success, our business gives us the opportunity to buy at cost and we save up for high-end equipment as we enjoy this category as a serious hobby.

I also upgraded to the UB900 remote and it is fantastic. Much higher quality, comfortable and easier to use...and even lit. Highly recommended for owners of the UB820. Seems like new ones go just as fast as they show up for sale (at least the decently priced ones). Model number for those interested is N2QAYA000131.

Anyone know the price of the remote directly from Panasonic for the new UB9000? They must supply them, what if one is damaged or lost?

Default Audio issue

I have owned the Panasonic UB820 for roughly a month and have thoroughly enjoyed it! Today I ran into a problem! I own about five or six Blu Ray titles from Warner Bros that have DTS HD Master Audio that runs through my Martin Logan center channel speaker via the HDMI.

Today I wanted to see how these titles sounded if I listened to them thru analog hookup (center channel output on rear of Panasonic) to a two channel input on rear of my Yamaha receiver! This way I could listen thru my Cerwin Vega front towers which are a pair of beasts! I changed audio output on The player to analog (stereo downmix 2.1). When I play the titles I get no sound! I chose the proper analog entry on the receiver, but nothing! Is there another step or steps that I failed to follow?
HELP!!! THANKS!

Hey guys, question and/or an issue. When I play a Dolby Vision disc and on my LG C8 when it’s black even in the widescreen bars if you look up close I see something weird is going on. Hard to explain but looks like tiny air bubbles rising. Maybe my brightness is set too high but I don’t see it with HDR.

I don’t see it if I use the built in Vudu app on the tv playing a Vision movie.

I’ll guess it’s the fact you connected to the center channel. Downmix to 2.1 should send signal to L+R + Sub. There should be no output to the center channel.
If you try the L and R channel you should get sound.

I was looking at pictures, how do you use the HDR optimizer? I mean is there a button replacement?

Is Dolby Vision giving elevated blacks for anyone else? I thought it was my Sony 900F that was the root of the problem, but now I notice the same thing on my LG C8.

Yeah, that's what I would like to know as well.

I've only watched one movie in DV on the 820 since I got it this Spring. With all the DV related issues (on Sony TVs) I'm reading about, as well as mostly not making a significant difference anyway, I haven't even bothered anymore.
