Apparently they've been scanning literally everything they have in 4K, including some outtake footage that ended up being used in Rogue One. So it wouldn't surprise me if they already have the original negative scanned in 4K (which would currently exist as the 1997 Special Edition), all the footage from the original versions, and have a completed 4K reconstruction of the current "Complete Saga" edition, which I believe is what Gareth Edwards was watching when making Rogue One.

None of this is confirmed, of course, but I'm pretty sure that's what has been happening. I wouldn't be surprised to see a brand new 4k release of the classic films at some point after the Fox sale goes through. Hopefully they don't plan to withhold a UOT release for whatever reason.

I use to work in a warehouse where the items being transported were wrapped in those huge blue waterproof tarps. Each time they were required I'd say (quietly), "It's a tarp" but nobody ever got the reference.

They should rename A New Hope to A Death Star Is Born. Actually, if we're being completely accurate, Rogue One should've been taglined as A Death Star Is Born.

That has long since been changed and the Jabba in A New Hope now looks the same as the one in The Phantom Menace. This was changed with the release of A New Hope on DVD in 2004.
