Interesting, no one commented yet on Shane's review of the 9000.

Near the end he mentioned one important feature for front projector owners that both the 820 and 9000 don't support, but that the Oppo 203 and 205 do:

"The 203/205 support several widescreen 21:9 options in the video setup menu under the widescreen option. These options allow for a quick selection, using the zoom button, to switch between standard 16:9 display and 21:9 image manipulation to support panamorphic lens and widescreens. This worked well, even with Dolby Vision encoded discs, a feature that no projector yet supports."

Robert Zohn, will you be carrying the new UB9000 remotes (replacement) for those wanting to upgrade from their UB820 remotes? How much if so?

Yes, and that would be the best remote as it has the discrete HDR Settings button, Playback Info button and other hard buttons that match the UB820 features.

No price yet and I just ordered them so we don't have an in-hand date at this moment.

Panasonic should simply provide the 9000 remote with the 820 player.

As usual, ^ we agree again and I spoke with Panasonic about that.

They say that the UB9000 back-lit remote's cost would bring up the retail price too much. I'll help to price the extra original UB9000 remote control very reasonably.

I've never done business but would love to have a 9000 remote if you ever start taking information for orders for the remote I would really like one if that is possible!

And is there anyway to force the audio to come out only from HDMI audio out and not the primary HDMI port?

I am still waiting for my 820 to arrive (ordered Nov. 22nd!) and would also love to get a 9000 remote for it. Going from the UB900 player to the 820's inferior remote is going to leave a little hole in my heart.

Robert, tell Panasonic that Bob the Frenchman (LOTR) said that if Oppo can offer a full metal jacket universal 4K BR player for $549 (203) with the excellent motion controlled light remote and a HDMI cable included in the box, plus a cool shopping bag and a heavy duty detachable AC cord, Panasonic with their plastic 820 4K non-universal player for $499 can offer a more decent remote.

I wasn't born the year when the new president of the USA took his new job.
We all are passionate in our hobbies, including Hollywood, the manufacturers and the suppliers.

I sure oppe that Oppo comes back, sooner than later. Now that's a company with class, dignity, respect, fairness, serviceable, durable, ... all that best jazz.

And when Panasonic stops making 4K Blu-ray players check on eBay for what the 820 would sell for. My guess...couple hundred bucks @ best; nowhere near what the 203 sells for today. It is simple physical mathematics...fatal attraction of the genes.

Best Holiday Season to all your family and customers.

Ridiculous considering the 820 is basically a new version of the old 900, and the 9000 remote is the 900 remote. I can't stand corporate dishonesty.

Please show some loyalty and don't forget that there's someone on this board who needs your support to build his fourth home theater.

Sevenoaks Sound and Vision in the UK are selling the DP-UB820 for GBP 199,- (USD ~250) in their stores so you can imagine how much profit is left for a retailer who sells the same thing for USD 500,-

Robert has my full support; that's why I'm honest in suggesting what's good and fair from Panasonic.
It's people like Robert and all his customers (us) who can benefit by letting Panasonic know about our suggestions. Oppo is an exemplary model of relationship between manufacturer and customers.

Robert is the supplier and I'm sure he is open to what customers say and suggest to Panasonic.
If I was Robert I would too. If I was Panasonic as well. We all love our hobby.

Unfortunately, none of the "suggestions" from that guy resulted in better products. This years Panasonic UHD players are the same crap as last years.

I know the cost of the UB820 in Canada. If whatever store wants to sell the item at below cost, it’s their right. Most companies want to make money though.

No, I wish, I still have that model and use it. No DV support. Has the nice remote the UB9000 will have.

The UB900 is still a great UHD player though. No HCX and HDR 10 optimizer.

Just waiting to upgrade to the UB9000. It's unfortunate the UB9000 has to be such a pain in the blah, blah to get. Only from Value Electronics at the moment. Oppo made it such a breeze to buy one of their UHD players. Panasonic with the UB9000 has made it a cat and mouse game until you find out Value Electronics is the one selling it.

I see you just joined Blu-ray.com and made this post.

Not sure why you would act this way or make up your own price for the UB820 in the UK? Just to vet your claim I checked Sevenoaks Sound and Vision's price on the UB820 and they do have it on sale for GBP 299, not the GBP 199 you claim. And this is a sale price, the normal selling price in the UK is GBT 399, which is higher than USA price.

Even more interesting is that the same retailer has the UB9000 on sale for GBT 799, which coverts to more that our USA price.

Further, and most importantly in the USA we have several retailers all selling the UB820 for the same price as we do, $499 USD and I can tell you the dealer mark-up is very small. We are the only retailer that buys an outer box and takes the time to double box every item we sell to ensure a safe delivery to our clients.

Sorry to have reposted your post that is nothing but made up BS, but I can tell you that the truth is all we want to see on this forum and when I and other members see incorrect information we step up and correct it.

Thanks Danny, I do appreciate your feelings, but wanted to ask what objection you would have in doing business with the exclusive USA authorized dealer?

We are very easy to find as this is widely discussed on all a/v user forums and a simple Google or any search engine query fetches my company as the 1st or second listing. So we're very easy to find by anyone looking for information or to buy the UB9000.

I'm an engineer and am dedicated to premium audio and video. I helped with the development of the UB820 and UB9000 and for my support Panasonic valued back priority allocations of these highly respected BD players.

You and anyone doing business with us will enjoy the personalized and skilled service and support from a dedicated dealer who knows these products better than any other retailer and you will get the product delivered in a proper double box to ensure its original pristine condition, something no other retailer does.

If you check one of the AV forums that is more popular in Europe, Sevenoaks currently has an unadvertised in-store only price of GBP 199 for the UB820. Some Richer Sound stores are price matching as well.

All I can say is that although I will not buy thing from Robert (as I live in Canada), I have met Robert at a couple of insiders-only events and I can’t say anything but all positive things about Robert and his down to earth mannerisms and professionalism.
