Picked up my Logitech 680 Media Center remote 3-4 years ago when I started with the HTPC and running media center 2005. Anyways it's still going strong - controls everything but the PS3 and is still compatible with Vista Ultimate 64. To this day it still amazes people that I can access My Music and My Movies etc from my pc to the Samsung 61" and control everything being horizontal on the couch

Default Harmony 880

The major drawback with this remote is that charging is unreliable. I'm now on my third 880, because the first 2 refused to charge after about six months use - Harmony service was brilliant however - shipping both replacements free of charge from Canada to Taiwan. As a workaround I've recently found that reconnecting to the Harmony website and updating usually allows recharging, but for how much longer I'm not sure. I remain nervous every time I use it.

The buttons are not the easiest to use (too small and close together) but the unit always works flawlessly with one button push in controlling multiple sources, video processing, audio, pj.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has charging problems., and how they were overcome.

I have had my 880 for a few weeks now and haven't had any charging issues, but what your statement each remote only lasted for 6 months before it had charging issues.

I'll let you know if 6 months!

Bluhorizon, I have had my 880 for a little over a year now, and yes, occassionally the charger "acts up." What I have done is to take the charging base apart and you will see the gold connectors to charge the remote with. They appear to be rather flimsy and I think after some wear and tear, they become a little "worn". So, I simply have put a small piece of paper that has been folded to fit underneath each connector, thus "pushing up" the connector a bit more out of the base itself once I put it back together. Now, it has no issue at all making the connection to charge. It is easy to do and the screws are behind the little foam pads underneath the base. I am sure other people here have used a better product or idea to do the same thing, and it does work. Sure is better than going thru a bunch of remotes and the hassle it involves. Anyone else out there want to chime in with your 2 cents? Otherwise, I love the remote and it does everything for my system.

My question is do they both use the same software to where I can just download my setting to the 880 and not have to set everything up again?
Yes, they do. If you pay attention the the home screen of the software once you log in, there is a button that says something along the lines of "upgrade remote" or "change remote". A few preference or layout setting aside, and you should be fine.

That is one way to look at it.

However, I haven't switched out the disc in my PS3 all week. I'm not too sure about you, but I am a gamer therefore I've been playing a lot of the demos being released this week and haven't been doing too many disc changings.

I don't know how else to explain that not every situation to use your PS3 will require you to go to your PS3 to change the disc.

Isn't the point of owning a Harmony remote to remove need for having other remotes??

IR4PS3 removes the need to have the bluetooth remote laying around. Plus, every button on the bluetooth remote can turn the PS3 on, which was extremely annoying when my wife cleans because she would accidently (unknowingly) hit the buttons on the remote and my PS3 would be on for hours. IR4PS3 eliminates that from happening, plus I can toss one more remote out.

Sure play a few games on the PS3 however I find it is being used more for movies - it's a better media player than my HTPC

That is true - but I just use the controller-don't have the RF remote either - got used to it so it's no bother...

I purchased the Harmony 670 the other week. I'm enjoying it but I do have a couple of questions.

One my previous remotes i've always been able to set up the volume/mute punch through on each device. Now it seems that if you select the DEVICE you don't access to the volume controls. It only seems to be available when using "Watching a...." when then gives me access to my receiver volume controls. That would be ok, but when you are using "Watching a...." i'm not getting full controls of that device.

Am I missing something in set up?

Guys, I'm interested in upgrading my Harmony remote. I can get a refurbished 1000 for 209 (probably any time), or a brand new Harmony 1 for 179 (right now on sale at amazon.com), so which would you guys recommend?

If you don't need RF go for Harmony One. It's newer and has a much better feel with less bugs (see Logitech's own forum on 1000's problems). If you need RF look at the 890 or 1100. The 1100's/1000's home screen also sets up for 6 activities per page, compared to the One's 3 activities per page.

One of the function/activity buttons on the side of the screen of my 720 is not working anymore. Does anyone know what Logitech will do about this? Will I have to send it in, will they replace it, etc?

Recently replaced my old Harmony 688 with a Harmony One. The buttons on the old one were tiny and the writing had worn off to the point that anyone visiting could not tell what the various keys were for.

The Harmony One is quite simply an awesome remote control and well worth the money I paid.

I had my first 880 for almost a year before the charging became an issue. Got a free replacement and haven't had an issue again for the past eight months.

Bought a Harmony one for a different room and haven't had any issues with taht one either. I like the One better because of the touch screen and the white backlit buttons are easier to press because they are raised from the face of the remote.

I just recently picked up a Harmony One. I have to say I LOVE it!!! I don't know I have lived without one. My life is so much easier now. Im really digging the fact that you can download the network logos to be used on the touchscreen. It's just a small thing but I never knew how conivenientnit is.

I did have a small setup problem with the volume on the remote not controlling the receiver when i would switch to my computer and PS3 activities. I didnt realize that you have to designate the volume control on generic activities.

I'm still torn between the two. Does anybody here have a Harmony 1000? If so, please let me know your thoughts on it.

I love the 1000, it's a great remote. I got my first Harmony 1000 about 2yrs ago & have never looked back. What would you like to know about it?
