This. Their colour accuracy last year was so shocking it sent Vincent into a very passionate speech - see his youtube review. They just ticked all the boxes to get "Ultra HD Premium" (1000 nits, 10-bit panel, enough %age of DCI-P3 gamut) but the colour accuracy was disgusting and awful.

Call me weird but I love looking at my equipment when it's not turned on. If it were up to my girlfriend, everything would be in a cabinet but I wasn't having that no way. I need to see my stuff, even when it's not in use.

It would be kind of funny if someone's wifey insisted that you roll up your OLED TV when not in use, and she tells you to be sure to put it next to the Fruit-Roll-Ups!!
Maybe even better, next to the rolls of paper towels or even toilet paper!

Sony's first 8K TVs get supersized to 85 and 98 inches at CES 2019

The 8K Z9G Master Series LCD comes in just two sizes: 85 inches as well as a whopping 98-inch model.

A9G Master Series OLED TV: Sony's highest-end OLED TVs for 2019 are really similar to the 2018 version, the Master Series A9F, except that now it offers a 77-inch option in addition to 55- and 65-inch sizes. The main different is in design; the A9G has a more standard ultraslim look, without the large "kickstand" lean-back design of the A9F. Sony's OLED TV screens are actually big speakers, and the version on the A9G ("Acoustic Surface+") supposedly offers better sound.

A8G series OLED TV: Sony's step-down 2019 OLED sets, they lack the fancy processing of the Master Series and have just the standard Acoustic Surface screens. The series comes in 55- and 65-inch sizes.

X950G series 4K LCD TV: Available in 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes, these sets look similar on paper to the X900F we reviewed in 2018, complete with full-array local dimming and Dolby Vision. It gets a couple new features however, including improved sound ("Acoustic Multi-Audio", said to improve sound positioning) and a far-field mic for Google Assistant.

Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support: Similar to LG's and Vizio's, Sony's 2019 TVs will work with Apple AirPlay 2. That means iPhone, iPad and Mac computers can be used to control TV show and movie playback on the big screen, whether from iTunes movies and TV shows or other compatible apps. Photos can also be shown on the TV screen, and it can mirror a phone or computer screen to show web pages for example. The TV can be part of a multiroom audio setup, and controls for the set itself can appear on the phone screen.

With HomeKit, "these TVs can be added to the Home app and included in scenes or automations with other HomeKit accessories" according to Sony's press release. "For example, users can create a 'Movie Night' scene in the Home app to easily turn on their TV and dim the lights, and simply ask Siri to launch the scene."

Sony says pricing and availability for all of its 2019 TVs will be announced this spring.

I love that BMD is aboard, not so much the wide viewing angle tech and the center speaker mode though...

Hopefully we get more info asap.

Man, the 8K sets are coming faster than I thought they would be. I know there is no content, but it will certainly make UHD's look even better than they already are...

I love that Z9G, but IMO with micro's on the horizon, the tech of LED's is fading in the high-end spectrum. . I wonder why Sony didn't do 8K on the OLED flagship like LG did.

All in all, impressive, but way out of my pocketbook for now.

I guess this database upscaling stuff is going to become the norm for 8K displays until some actual 8K content starts becoming available for the average consumer, not that surprising. If they work out some of the kinks of the algorithms then the sheer pixel density might make things look preceptively better I guess, though I think the technology is still riding with training wheels at this stage.

Hopefully these 8K TVs make the 4K market more competitive in the long run.

A lot of people were going where's the tech with the whole presentation it was more of a get happy photo op with Pharrell Williams at the end.

Well, when it comes to upscaling 4K into 8K then it's basically doing exactly what a 4K TV does with HD content, that part's easy enough. And Sony's processing has made use of a database for years, that's nothing new either. But it's that increased density combined with brighter HDR and conventional 24p frame rates & shutter angles which could make these a bit of a disappointment when it comes to increased image judder. And in lieu of any content - there's certainly no 8K disc or TV broadcasts in the West, maybe some OTT delivery? - then these will remain fancy upscalers and are strictly for poseurs and ohmaigodigottahaveit types for whom money is no object. Still, that's the true meaning of CESmas!

Again with the selling of Atmos and DTS:X like it's someething new & unique for a BD player?!? Bizarre, but then I guess the average Joe/Jane doesn't actually have a clue how this works so **** it, why not plaster Atmos and DTS:X all over it...

Man I was really hoping Sony would have engineered a micro LED. All this 4k/8k tech is hard to decide when to jump to 4k.

I don't think the tech (MicroLED) is really ready yet for home use at the moment. Maybe in a year or two?

And I could have done without 8K. Not sure why manufacturers want it to be a thing now. I actually would have preferred that Z9G to be "just" 4K.
