I just got off the phone with a Magnolia Design Center manager and he told me Pioneer has discontinued the UDP-LX500 player and he can't get any. He believes a new Pioneer/Onkyo player will be revealed at CES. I wonder if Robert could comment on this as he is very connected with Pioneer and can validate if this is true.

This player came out a few months ago and Pioneer has no plans on discontinuing it. A Blu-ray player model production cycle is normally 1 year, and sometimes 18 months to 2 years for high-end models. Pioneer is a better 4K Blu-ray player for those that want SACD/DVD-audio playback capability. Once the HDR10+ firmware update is offered by Pioneer, there is a possibility that the Pioneer might be better then the Panasonic when a head to head professional review occurs. Pioneer might become the new reference player since OPPO is no longer making players. |

![]() That was back when Pioneer made their reference plasma screens between 2006 to April 2009 (With the 2008 model being their last plasma). Pioneer also has the best or one of the best A/V receivers. What is happening is the average consumer is looking for the cheapest price instead of the best quality. Pioneer Elite products are for someone that wants the best quality and for those that keep their systems for 10-20+ years because of build quality. The Pioneer Elite 3 year warranty is much better then most other companies that have 90 days or 1 year. The UDP-LX500 is a leading state of the art product, but it has a niche market because of its price. |

Here's the official word, the Pioneer Elite BDP-LX500 is very much alive and well.
Same issue exists with this new high-end BD player that we're experiencing with Panasonic's UB820 and UB9000, supply can't catch up with demand. But the LX500 is Pioneer's Elite premium BD player for the USA. Thankfully we just received our third allocation yesterday. Also as of today, Onkyo has no plans or interest in bring in the LX800 for the USA. Here's a pic I just took of the LX500 on display Onkyo/Pioneer's CES exhibit. ![]() |

Thanks, Robert. So it's identical to it's initial release? I remember you mentioning sometimes a/v companies switch out parts without notification as their products incrementally evolve over time. In this case it's just demand outpacing supply.

In reply to sellers not being able to get any in the last three months of last year maybe they were not well connected to get any. In my opinion some sellers will say or make up stories to inquiries. Case in point I wanted to buy a Cambridge Audio blu-ray player back in September and I knew the going price from a local audio dealer. Thought I would give another a chance from another dealer to see what he would quote. He gave me price at full MSRP which was 50% higher. When I said this price was way high he said it was probably because they were seconds! He will never get any more business from me. I also know what my Pioneer audio dealer buys these LX500s for and many dealers are trying to sell them for way too much. Audio stores have to make a profit to stay in business but buyers don't like to get taken advantage of. Last edited by Rocketstail; 01-10-2019 at 08:45 AM. |

Installed this player yesterday. Build quality is exactly what you would expect from Pioneer. I haven't had a Pioneer player since my combo LD/DVD DVL-700 and this performs at a very high level. Colors, HDR is excellent. Menu is stripped down, which I like. Remote is backlit but that doesn't matter since I use the Harmony. Its solid, whisper quiet and performs better than any player I have ever owned. Tested with 4K UHD, Blu Ray and even DVD titles. Up-conversion is excellent and I love the display options that show HDR details. Yeah its a grand but...I can't image spending a grand on anything better, especially if you are a film freak like me.
