As long as CR/DF's antics continue to entertain and Arrow keeps being Arrow you dont have to fear my allegiances changing

There's nothing entertaining about a label taking advantage of their customers. The sad thing is there is a portion of Code Red's/DF customers who seem to enjoy it. Stockholm Syndrome is real.

As long as CR/DF continues to act unprofessional, hes okay with justifying literally anything they ever do.

I dont wait years to buy stuff so these situations dont apply to me in any way whatsoever, other than I get to watch the antics and related fallout. Hence no Stockholm Syndrome.

Even if i did wait years to buy something I would take ownership for sitting on my hands when it was normally priced and pay up to get the title if need be.

Why don't any other labels raise the prices of their old items?

They could if they wanted to, but they choose a more typical business model of blowing out old stock to get rid of it. Code Red likes to hold on to old stock and squeak every penny out of each release as their business model.

I personally would prefer if more labels had a model where an item was cheaper right away and progressively more expensive as stock dwindles (like a reverse twilight time model). Would actually work too if it was done in small limited runs (no more than 1000).

Yeah you wish more labels would charge 29.99 for a movie claim it didn't sell and then jack the price up to $50 a year later and call it ultra rare. We need more labels like that!

Thinking more like -
Day 1 / 100 copies = $15
Week 1 / 200 copies = $18
Month 1 / 500 copies = $20
Month 3 / 750 copies = $25
Month 6 / 900 copies = $28
Year 1 / 950 copies = $30
951-975 copies = $40
976-1000 copies = $50

Get it fast, get it cheap, but label still makes $ in the end from procrastinators.

But what possible reason would they have to do this? Not only would it probably be diffucult to program on the back end, it would only please the few people that got on early while making everyone else angry. There's truly no logical reason to do this.

The logic is, that’s what they do, so a defense must be constructed to justify it.

It would psychologically condition most people to buy ASAP to get in on the low priced tiers instead of waiting for "bucket list" prices (since price goes up, not down) and with most interested now knowing about Code Red there would be little excuse for getting in at a low price tier. It might actually make people scramble to get a release cheap before it goes up and hence would generate activity for a title right away instead of having piles of it languish.

And for the CR/DF faithful it would offer a lower price on release day, which is a win win for that audience. But yeah it would require some back end programming. And CR/DF would have to very clearly define the rules of the game.

It would also encourage more scalping. The scalpers tend to be early buyers, then once they know this "brilliant" pricing structure, they can always price just below DF and make profit. Win Win for scalpers. Your logic as always is sound.

A pricing scheme like that would quickly bring sales to a screeching halt for a lot of the marginal titles that these companies release

I would suggest they begin such a model with more popular titles that will obviously sell out to first condition people, then roll out to less popular titles over time.

No one is going to bother scalping for a few bucks difference that will be lost to fees anyway. And, when the price difference is large enough for scalping to make more sense for scalpers, the stock will be low enough that it wont matter since the label has so little stock.

If you watched last night's livestream, they explained why: Bananaman is broke and doing this to raise money.

Still unethical to do this to customers - if he needs money, he should set up a separate GoFundMe, or something.
