I'd just like to add that I'm absolutely in love with my Monitor 70s, and I didn't pay an arm and a leg for them either.

he never said he couldn't tell the difference between the ML, B&W and Polks.. he just liked the Polk sound better and it was less expensive.

Youre right, it is capitalism, but its still Bullcrap. You wonder why people get bad service at best buy. I worked for them at one point, and about 75% of the time we can tell who is going to come in and buy from us or who is going to waste our time and then go to amazon, ebay, vanns, onecall, bhphoto, etc. No one wants to help someone if youre going to waste their time. And now, we werent on commission, but it still feels good to make that sale.

Yeah, pretty good speakers, Sandy Gross, their founder, used to work for polk actually. He decided to branch off on his own. I am more of a fan of their mythos line than anything else from them. Pretty good subs too

I have a sub from them..... build quality seems good.

I've listened to various models of their speakers with various results.... so I guess it's best to give them a listen.

My first comment regarding Polk's eBay site.

My response to your response- my post quoted your comment. It was implied.

If something comes in broken (like a grill), a replacement one can be ordered free under warantee. How is that all bad?
Your confused response:

I did say eBay. I just didn't specify with words exactly in that post. I did with your quoted response hence the quote.

People who work at B&M stores should expect to answer questions on equipment of which they are trained to sell and should be familiar with, hence their paycheck. Perhaps their lack of motivation is why they treat most customers with total disrespect. If I worked at a B&M store, I would assist people as per requested in my job description and paycheck. I don't get paid here and like to help people out. What does it matter to me if someone goes to another site to get some more advice on something that I personally didn't know how to answer. You're almost talking about fanboyism. What does it matter to the person who sells the item to someone without commission anyways? They should at least have respect for people.

yes i agree, i originally went to sound advice to get my speakers but the sales person was a snob and in such a rush to get me out of the store (which was funny because nobody was in the store so its not like he needed to help others). I decided to go to amazon and get my speakers instead. Now when i went to buy my amp i went to a local home theater install store and they were the most helpfull staff i have ever encountered. They sat down and explaied the science of amplification and answered absoutly every question i had. They went out of their way to get me the best pice possible. they now have a coustomer for life

What's not to understand? By the way, what could you have against these Monitor 50's? That deal is one of the reasons people like Polk. There are some awesome deals around. It is enjoyable for many to find an awesome deal on good speakers and is a fantastic way to start off your HT journey.

You know for some people that may be a perfect speaker, but to me they dont cut it. I have had the fortunate experience of listening to too many high end speakers and amps that I can't go back anymore. It may be a good deal, but I dont buy on deals, I buy on what I want and what I feel I deserve, and if its too expensive at the time, I save up, I dont settle just because its a good deal. And that seems to be a difference of attitude on buying audio for a lot of people.

this is not what the entire point of this thread was though, what other speaker can you get for 80 bucks that compares to the polk monitor.

Very happy with my setup - it is my first HT system. I've taken much advice from many here and I've not been steered wrong. As you'll notice on Driver_Kings' page, he's got stuff listed for 'HT virgins'. I've had that cherry popped and maybe somewhere down the road I'll be looking for that super sweet setup... but I'm VERY happy with MY "Holy Trinity" Thankyouverymuch... And I didn't spend a lot... so what's wrong with that???

I've got a great picture, great sound, and I can crank it up to scare the neighbors. Seriously, the improvement over tv speakers gives me huge wood. Maybe someday I'll sit around and moan about not having enough richness of sound or something... but for now my hairs stick up quite straight with the results I've gotten from a 'assembly line' speaker.

Just my 2 cents, you can keep the change...

Cheers, Doc.

My original setup was the Polk monitors - I had the 50's up front and wanted to upgrade to the 70's - I was just about to buy them but I heard the Paradigm Monitor 7's and it sounded alot different(better) than my 50's and was for $200 less than the Monitor 70's.

I ended up upgrading to all Paradigm's and keeping My Monitor 50's for surrounds - got Monitor 11's for $50 cheaper than the Polk Monitor 70's where I'm from here in Canada - and to me they sound much better than the Monitor 70's. I liked the sound from the Polks but this was just a whole new sound.

So I'm gonna say that I did originally buy the Polks from opinions on this sight without being able to compare much to other brands - and there are speakers for the same price that do sound better than those often mentioned on here - some probably even better than the Paradigms, but these are the only ones I was actually able to audition cuz of my location.

I got my Monitor 50's for only $250(cdn) last year and that was a very good price then so it all depends if you're willing to spend a bit more or if you're bargain hunting like I was....... and then ended up catching the upgrade bug when more $$ came in.

You are right, I cant think of one, and if thats the point to this thread, then that is the best $80 speaker you can find.
