I am about to start Co-Pilot from season 2, disc 2 soon. I have to say that no matter how many times I have rewatched The Shield (my 3rd or 4th time now), I always get such enjoyment out of it. There is never a dull/boring moment/episode, no filler storyline’s that you just feel like fast forwarding past. Corrine and the kids scenes can be seen as boring but they go by so quickly that we don’t get these long scenes with them. Every single case with the strike team and Dutch/Claudette is always so fun to watch. Dutch destroying everyone is pretty damn satisfying.
Years back when I watched The Shield for the first time, I also watched The Wire after it. The I tried to rewatch The Wire months later and got an episode into it because I just wanted to watch The Shield more than it and I did. I have rewatched The Wire again in the meantime and probably will again one day but The Shield is just one of those series that I can rewatch every couple of months. A series I can rewatch more than any other, including “24” which I love but that is more a Jack Bauer thing. What a great series. Quote:
Vic Mackey vs Jack Bauer? Just to look at them most would say Vic Mackey but the opposite is more than likely true. But that is more Cop vs Federal Agent. |

The Shield is IMO a better television show than The Wire. It did a better job of balancing storytelling with entertainment and didn't get bogged down too often. Part of this was due to the shorter running time since FX had to use advertising. This forced them to "cut the fat" to meet runtime requirements. The Wire sometimes got bogged down with scenes that ran too long or were unnecessary since they were on a premium channel.
Jack Bauer and Vic Mackey are different. Jack was a former special forces leader and he often employed MacGyver-like techniques to get out of bad situations instead of killing someone, beating somebody up, or committing torture. He'd use the latter three if there was no other option, but he often found alternatives when he needed to. Vic Mackey's skills as a detective were B- at best. Usually C grade. This was quite obvious compared to Dutch or Wym's abilities. Jack had to depend on others for special skills such as computer hacking, but he was generally a competent investigator and decision-maker. |

Might just be my copy, but the audio on ANIMAL CONTROL (season 7 episode 6) does NOT sound good. Very tinny. Most noticeable on explosions/gun shots/doors shutting etc.

All this talk about cut vs uncut, widescreen vs 4:3, but no one is talking about the fact the 5.1 DTS-HD track is actually just a mono 1.0 track with some built-in very crappy 5.1 emulation. Most of the time the music is even coming from the center channel! Compare it to the DVD's 2.0 stereo track and see for yourself how much fuller the DVDs sound.
When searching for this issue, I actually found a piracy group releasing the BDs with DVD audio for this very reason. I am surprised no one here is talking about it. I will be returning to Amazon. Last edited by nielan; 01-14-2019 at 01:10 PM. |

I just watched “Mum” and oh yeah, you can definitely tell that it is cut. The run time of the epidoe is even in the 45:— range whereas every other episode (except an episode 1 of a season or finales) is in the 46:— range. So a good 30+ seconds has been cut out.
The “Suck it!” bit is actually shown on the “previously” segment of the very next episode. I actually asked myself what was the odds that it would be shown when that very part was cut from the episode. ![]() It begs the question that if they used the UK versions of the episodes, would “Suck it!” even be present? Maybe the UK version of that particular episode was used but the US for everything else, that is why that particular “Suck it!” part is shown in the next episode. |

Technically, but if it’s opened they will only give you a percentage of what you paid plus they charge for return shipping. So it’s not really worth it. If it is damaged/defective, however, then you get free return shipping and your full refund.
