Housing in Iowa is fairly inexpensive, I have numerous friends my age that own houses, I actually bought mine when I was 24 though.

With our first child due in about 4 weeks, not a chance.

This owning a house thing certainly takes its toll on your wallet as well.

Planning on it, but truthfully I'd rather save the money and kill some debt. It's a family thing though, and I know we'll have a good time. The kids especially, and no we're not going to Disney. That's in a couple more years

Doing a cruise up through New England and the Canadian maritime provinces, so yes. But that will be it for us this year, apart from a brief visit to my mom's place in Seattle.

Going to try too. Kauai in July is likely but we'd also like to get to Taiwan before my sister and her husband leave sometime this year.

Yes, planning a trip for the family down to Universal Studios Florida in July or August.

We did Disney about 2 yrs back my boys had a lot of fun, they are older now so they should have even more fun at Universal.

Nope, vacations are getting so expensive. With two weeks spent in a nice place with nice food and having a good time, I could buy the best PC in the market.

What's a decent cruise for one person cost these days? I have always thought about going that route for maybe 3 or 4 days but always thought they were very expensive. Maybe they are. And I'm sure it varies by destination.

Haven't gone away on vacation in six or seven years. We've been to Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, England, All over the Caribbean and the USA in earlier times, so I feel satisfied with everything I've seen. We never really traveled as "tourists". We went low-key, off the main drag and away from the main attractions. We've been politely asked to put our camera away by gamblers in slums. We've fought our way out of a club in Patpong. We spent six weeks on the road with no home address in the American West without spending a night in a hotel. We've been chased and dog-sniffed by Border Patrol in the Big Bend area of Texas. We went to every bar on the main street in Ottumwa Iowa in a single night. We visited England for the sole purpose of visiting pubs with good reputations for their Real Ale. We got stuck in a bar on Grand Cayman, and my wife brought only the credit card that had expired, and they kept serving me while she left to retrieve some money and return about hours later. We've had some good vacations.

I no longer have the tolerance to endure the hassles of air travel. Delays, cancellations, surly employees, stupid security policies, all of it are too much to stomach.

I don't have time to take extended American road trips or extended backpacking trips like I did during the student years.

I can't find anyone I trust to take care of my birds (this is most important).

On vacation, I like to find a place with scenery, food and drinks. I've got all of those at my house.

It's just money in the bank.

I've got two trips planned right now, but I'm hoping to add one more..

Going on a cruise with about twelve friends to the Caribbean (12 days)...

Then in the summer I'm heading out to Vegas for a week.

I would really like to make it back to Costa Rica this year, but it's up in the air. Costa Rica is all requisite on getting my expected bonus (not large by any means, but will allow an extra vacation)....

Here you go... 8 night Bermuda/eastern Caribbean +$100 onboard credit, starting at $549. I see you are a fellow New Englander, and this leaves from NYC, so no airfare needed.

Thanks Lumbergh. I will have to explore that site a lot more because I am just looking for a 3 or 4 day cruise. I can only really take long weekends right now so but that looks very promising pricewise. What does onboard credit mean?

It's pretty much a voucher that can be used at the onboard shops, facilities such as the spa, or I believe can be used towards your bar tab.
