Not good on the audio. If it was that bad you think the "review" would say something about it. Usually the tech stuff on them is decent. Kind of like they did a half azzed job on this thing. I hour more clarifications come soon.

The review on Highdefdigest.com disagrees with your assessment of the audio, too. They're usually trustworthy in the tech department, and their review of the video is far more balanced than the Blu-ray.com review. Anyway, it's my experience that Audacity is not at all reliable for DTS HD tracks. I'll give the show a listen on my system when I've got the set.

I actually extracted the dts core & ran that through Audacity for the episodes. The reason I did this to begin with was because I found on the torrent site I frequent that they are remuxing the audio from the DVD release with the video from the Blu Ray release claiming the BR audio is mono, so I decided to check for myself.

He claimed "Audacity" is not a reliable tool for audio analysis and that reputable sources counter claim your torrent source and tool. So far the burden of evidence falls on you. You didn't reply to counter his claims with evidence, you just reiterated a process you may or may not have done.

Are you a lawyer? I am not on trial & this isn't a court. I'm just passing along what I heard & what I did about it.

And I say that if you want to be taken seriously then you have to back it up with more than just words and reiterations. You make a bold claim that the sound is more or less a mono track. We question your statement because:
1) The original was 2.0 or better.
2) No review I've read so far back up your claims (feel free to post one if you find one)
3) People here have already made statements about creator's intent/production process which have been debunked by twitter feeds or statements in other forums from responsible parties.

Audio review(s) have stated the rear channels aren't super active, but it is a long distance from front heavy to "center only". My suggestion to you is disable your center speak and have your receiver to pass-through the audio. Then watch some episodes and see how it turns out. You could also exclude the rear channels and have each front speaker 90 degrees on your ear for testing purposes

Not looking to argue or "prove" to anyone, just giving a warning to all looking to or have purchased the BR set. Here is a quote from the site I am referring to:
Release Name..: The Shield S02 Hybrid REPACK 1080p BluRay REMUX AVC DD 2.0-EPSiLON
Source........: The Shield S02 DVD DD2.0-SbR
Notes.........: Repack due to the "5.1" audio being mono, so synced stereo DVD audio was used.

Apparently people are working on syncing up the DD 2.0 audio from the DVDs with the video from the BluRays.
Like I said, I took it upon myself to check & the tracks are indeed mono (center channel only).
Who ever said Audacity is unrelieable is incorrect. I've been using Audacity for years & it is definitely reliable.
Now, Renascent, you seem to be the type of person that looks for an argument & you arent getting one from me. This is the last post I will be making regarding this issue as I did it as a favor to anyone looking to own or purchase the set so take me seriously or don't. I don't care.

Don't even worry about it man. I am keeping my DVDs for this and other issues as well. This set is not worth $100 period.

I wouldn’t expect someone called “DVD Josh” to be much of a fan of Blu-Ray anyway

Whenever I read information like this I like to verify it from multiple sources. Don't get me wrong, thanks for letting us know,
[Show spoiler]but currently you are the only one here (?) claiming it is a mono track.

I've ordered the Blu ray and will be able to confirm/deny when I get it.
Given the audio reviews posted by different sources, I've a hard time believing it is a mono track and will take your statement with a pinch of salt. If you are indeed correct I will have no problem saying so in this thread later, but until then...

Just got my hands on the set. I won't comment on the sound issues until I've had time to check it out properly over the weekend, but I will say the physical set is a beauty. Regardless of what is on the set, the packaging is top grade. Loads of nice images of the cast, and each disc is clearly labeled. The image quality is the best I've seen for the show (we don't have any service streaming it in Denmark, anyway), but it's definitely compressed. On my setup it's noticeable, and I would venture a guess that at least a modicum of DNR was applied based on the waxy look of Vic's bald head. Only other 16mm show I have on Blu-ray is Poirot, and this show looks significantly less filmic.

Default Audio

So, I ripped an episode (Season 1, episode 13) and opened the audio file in PowerDirector. Pictured is the sound of a car breaking (right after the red marker). This is only editing in stereo, but as you can see there is a marked difference in the sound of the left and the right track.
P.s. Sorry for the double post.

LOL. If only they would bring back 8-tracks and Laserdiscs so I can be truly happy again.

Yes, the set is beautifully done. Very nice, sturdy quality. I'm deep in a season one rewatch right now, and I have no complaints.

Can you post the timestamp for this audio mark? It would be interesting to see what Audacity, or other tools, show us for this specific time stamp.

Basically, this thread is a mix of people who have the set absolutely love it and the people who don’t have the set are looking for things to dislike about it.

You know, I hope we never get a replacement disc for the 5-10 second cut on “Mum”. If there are people who won’t buy the set because of that, good, don’t give them a reason to buy it. Funny how the DVD set is now good enough to the same people who wanted the series on BluRay because the DVD was rubbish to them.

Oh, I don’t think it’s botched at all. In fact, if no one told me that the UK version of “Mum” was used, I would have no clue whatsoever that the episode was cut and certainly wouldn’t have known that 2 words of dialogue was missing. Since the release we have received confirmation that the US version of every other episode was used. I supported this release and Sony kept up their part of the deal by upgrading a fully -except for the dialogue “Suck it!”-uncut BluRay of one of the greatest TV series since the turn of the century.

I’ll clarify one thing. If the UK version of “Mum” was cut for minutes, I would be right there wanting a replacement disc. But 5-10 seconds and it’s so insignificant that it’s more of a hassle than anything. I live in Australia anyway, so a replacement program probably doesn’t even extend to here. Luckily I can live with the missing 2 words of dialogue.

It's not "botched," since the episode used is a legit edit. As I've said many times before, the incorrect aspect ratio is a much bigger deal than 10 seconds of a missing BJ, but hey, no one cares if the aspect ratio is wrong. I'll keep saying hypocrites until people actually get it.
