What is simply being said in this thread is that Universal really doesnt have much to offer.

Read the posts before posting.
I know that Sax.

If universal does not have much to offer - WHY KEEP MAKING THREADS ABOUT IT?

I think this is very relevant as far as where things are going and whether Universal will be able to support HD DVD to the same point they have so far, and enough to keep things even close. From what I see of the list, as of next week, out of their top 20 all time that aren't Spielberg titles, all they will have left is:

15. A Beautiful Mind (2001)
19. Knocked Up (2007)
20. American Pie 2 (2001)

The Bourne Supremacy should get in there, but 2 out of the top 20 plus Knocked Up isn't much if they can't release Spielberg titles. To be fair, if it is only Spielberg directed titles they can't release, then they have:

9. Back to the Future (1985) - Spielberg (Executive Producer)
12. Jurassic Park III (2001) - Spielberg (Executive Producer)

left out of those top 20 also. That is of course for films and they have TV stuff also.

With Jurassic Park 4 coming next year Universal could try to use it to win in Japan, but if the war is already over then there with Blu-ray winning they will either need to release it on Blu-ray there or forego most of the high definition on disc market in Japan for that title. I wouldn't want to be in that position if the Blu-ray market in Japan grows and I was trying to get an HD DVD win in the US.

Hey Darin... You're right about the deep TV show catalog that they have, but aside from the recently produced programs, most older TV shows were only recorded in standard definition...plus I think Universal/NBC is too cheap to go into the vault and remaster their TV shows which were shot using film. I think that any of their TV content which is not already produced in HD probably won't ever get released in HD, just standard DVD treatment. Just a guess.

Interestingly of that top 20 list, I have only 3 in DVD (two cost me 4 bucks each last Xmas, that's why I got them), and 2 on LD (because they have full bitrate DTS ).

I guess I've been waiting for those great films to be released in a format that makes them justice as I didn't want to experience them diminished from the large screen experience.

I guess I can wait a little more.

I was just looking through my DVD collection, and I realized that most of my Universal movies are the ones with the crappiest quality . . . kind of off topic, but it made it a bit easier to wait it out. 40 Year Old Virgin and Meet The Parents stuck out to me, as the video quality on these is pretty bad, especially 40YOV for being such a new movie. But we digress . . .

I think we're both on the same page DrinkMore. We just have a different approach.

I started the thread more or less to let others understand that they don't need to let the Universal decision bother them. I thought by posting some facts about their most popular films the folks who are really upset might realize that its not much to be upset about.

Essentially... my purpose to post was to produce a positive. The more our fellow blu-ray family here understands about the facts related to Universal's films, they can tell their uneducated friends and family who might be leaning HD-DVD or just unsure that the Universal hold out on Blu-Ray really probably won't effect their favorite movies.
