A post on the 3d Film Archive's Facebook says that there will be an English track from 1954 and subtitles on Heart of the Sword

Brand new English subtitles and they managed rights to the original English dub? What a coup! Well done Bob and 3D Archive!

Although I would guess "Space Station USA" was Gog, and "Million Dollar Diamond" also got made in 3-D as "The Diamond Wizard". Perhaps it was the delay in shooting "The Long Wait" that led them to drop 3-D. Between September and November of that year would have been a pivotal time. Maybe if they'd been ready to go on September 8th, we might have had another 3-D title. Of course given the fate of Gog and The Diamond Wizard, it presumably wouldn't have had much of a 3-D release. From a purely commercial standpoint, they probably made the right decision. |

Got a copy of "Wasabi" starring Jean Reno in French with added English dubs and subtitles. Knowing what Jean Reno sounds like and that he speaks English quite well, hearing the other voice actor drove me nuts!!!! So that's what turned me on to listening in the original language and hearing their acting emotions in their voices, even when one doesn't understand exactly what they're saying. Pretty soon you're just catching the subtitles in your peripheral vision and it doesn't interfere with one's staying on top of a film visually. |

I love watching subtitled movies and hearing foreign languages. Similarly, I can't stand dubs. Usually, the voice actors are low-rent, the voice and lips don't match, and/or the script gets lost in translation. Subtitles and original language audio are an automatic choice. Dubs are just for people who won't read dialogue.

Maybe this has been covered before, but The Glass Web is screening at The Aero in Santa Monica next month. It says it's a 3D DCP, so it's been converted but they just aren't releasing it on disc for some reason?

The reason is music rights. You'll hear why if you go see the movie.

Awesome. Wish I could attend that. Thanks for letting us know about the DCP. Seems like that would make it relatively cheap and easy for a European distributor to license the film and prep it for Blu-ray 3D.

Nice March 14 with Dial M for Murder, March 15 Creature from the Black Lagoon intro'd by Julie Adams son and a Disney feature on March 17. I'm guessing the animated shorts are all Disney? If anyone goes also check out the LACMA 3D exhibition and Eric Kurland's 3D space! Last edited by robtadrian; 02-28-2019 at 10:51 PM. |

If anybody goes to the show, please report on the quality of The Glass Web DCP. I’m told there are quality issues and in fact, one theater test screened it and decided not to book it.

As an example, there's a record label called Awesome Tapes From Africa that specializes in re-releasing obscure music that was only on cassette, many times from countries like Ethiopia, Sudan, Mali and other countries with far from ideal manufacturing and recording processes. Tons of lisp and hiss, tape warps in some cases....but they're selling out of everything they do because at the end of the day people want to hear the music, even with its problems, so sometimes you just need to take the best option you have and run with it. I haven't seen the DCP either, but until we know what those issues are or were, should keep an open mind. I've seen issues that would easily warrant not showing a title. What are some repercussions for an exhibitor doing a presentation which he or or she knew was botched ahead of time? Besides the disappointment of a subpar presentation and possibly earning a bad reputation, there's a potential theater full of ticket refunds. It's something anyone in the business always has to keep in mind. If there were any serious issues with the DCP, I hope they were corrected.
