Because when I pull up the information window, the output is in 60p. As I said, it doesn't just do it on this 420 player, it's been the same on every prior Panny 4K player I've owned (900, 700, 390, 820) and even my old-ass BDT310 does the same thing.

I don’t understand. So can you please explain the “some 24p stuff will be output at 60p”. I want to learn.

Also I’m talking about 820 and 9000, not 420 or any Panny player. My conversations to the Panny engineers (the same engineers Robert Zohn has access to) states otherwise.

@Robert Zohn, @Geoff D, I just tried playing regular BD on my 820 and 9000, the both show 24p on my info windows, not 60p as you aluded to. Tomorrow I will check my 900.

Using DVD the output remains 60p because there is no native 24p on DVD

If this is a bug I'd like to report it to the chief engineer in HQ to fix it.
There is no bug. I played several UHD and regular BD movies just now. The 24p are shown in 24p as they are supposed to. I can only assume Geoff D doesn’t own either the 9000 or the 820. I’ll check my 900 tomorrow and report back.

^ He's talking about file playback from a USB device - not playing a BD/UHD BD.

Indeed, from a USB key 24p 1080p video plays back at 60p, and having just tested a 4K video file, that does indeed play back properly at 24p.

I hope that's something that can be remedied, because it really doesn't look right forced at 60p.

My misgake for being daft. Yes, when it comes to USB movie playback, Panasonic is just weird.

Thanks I'll bring this up to the right folks.

Just to confirm it's only 1080p played via the USB port and have we tried the front and rear USB ports? Thanks for the good work gents!

Together we'll make the a/v world a better place.

I would much rather have the automatic switch off functionality become optional, so you can choose for yourself should you wish to use it...

My BDT460 does this. No way to turn it off that I've found.

Been awhile that I got a chance to browse. Robert, have you been able to sell 9000 remotes for the 820? And is there any noticeable change to the player after the update? Haven't updated since the fall firmware push for obvious reasons.

Hi Robert, yes I can confirm it's only 1080p video via a USB and I tried both front and rear ports just now, both 24p sources output at 60p. Thanks!

@ King Crimson, the selling price came out to be $135, which is higher than I expected and wanted. For the moment we're delayed while working on getting the price down.

I believe that is the remote for the Panasonic UB900, not the UB9000. The UB900 remote lacks the HDR settings button found on the UB9000's remote.

Hello, I wanted to consult about the respected "HDR Optimizer". I saw some screenshots showing the difference but I wanted to know if any have more examples of the great difference shown by the HDR Optimizer. Those who bought the UB820 / UB9000, what do you think about the function? It's very good, is it worth it? And what movies did you try or recommend for that show? Thank you!

PS: sorry for my English

It depends on the tv you have and it's tone mapping ability plus the movie. There is a list of uhd movies and the ones with 4000 nits or higher will make the biggest difference. So for example my C8 oled with it's active HDR set to on then the optimizer makes less of a difference due to it's tone mapping but my older E6 oled the optimizer makes a big difference on those 4000 nits or higher movies. I leave it set to on and will sometimes check during a movie to see if it makes a difference and again depending on the movie it does work great. If you have a projector it will have the best tone mapping for that set up.

To be honest, most times I've checked, I haven't noticed any difference. However, last night while watching the new Halloween, I paused during the bathroom attack scene because I had noticed the bright highlights coming through the windows. When I switched the Optimizer off, I could no longer see the outline of the windows. It was just a mass of white light. Take that for what its worth.
