![]() Just like you don't need lots of additional spatial resolution to get benefits from UHD, you don't need extreme highlight peaks to get benefits from HDR. And you also have WCG and more efficient compression using higher bandwidth and greater storage capacity. |

Dynamic range isn't just about bright burning highlights, it really isn't. Negative film has a very wide dynamic range so even under the conditions for which Das Boot was shot I fully expect that an HDR pass could render out as yet unseen details.
