Don't know what to tell you but I leave DV on even for non-DV 4K's and the results are excellent

I leave it on for all other movies as well, and I think the picture looks much better.

I do the same, I always leave DV on with 4K content even if it's in HDR 10. Mainly for the fact that I don't really see any difference because it's HDR anyway and it's also a nuisance to have to constantly turn DV on and off for 4K discs that are HDR 10 only.

For SDR content, however, I always turn off DV otherwise it forces HDR and everything looks off.

I find it funny people who complain about turning on/off DV. If you are choosing to use disc media, you are not choosing convenience. An extra 2 seconds shouldn't be a big deal.

They're complaining because all other DV players in this price range play the HDR source on disk. Not force DV. For example the Phillips BDP-7502 and the LG UBK90

Yeah but doesn't the LG player have some weird thing about having to change refresh rates for dvds and blurays?

I have the Phillips player, (which I have zero problems with and would recommend to anyone.) So, not entirely sure on the on issues related to the LG player.

Not all the time, but a few times out of laziness, and a few times out of forgetfulness, I've left the DV setting on for standard HDR10 discs. I maybe noticed a slight improvement, but that very well could be my own brain telling me it might look slightly better. If nothing else, I definitely haven't noticed it looking worse because of the setting.

On standard blus, however, definitely pushes darks into lighter territory. With many blacks becoming charcoal greys. Didn't make the picture look awful at all, just wondered why some of the darker scenes/areas looked brighter than they should be until I checked said setting.

Still wouldn't mind an update that lets it auto-detect but...

Just bought this player yesterday and I'm not a fan. I heard reviewers saying the PQ was top notch but I'm not seeing it at all. I think the picture is less detailed than my Samsung 8500 and I'm considering taking the X700 back to Walmart. I used the recommended settings from people here and at AVS and the TV settings on my QLED are the same but Blade Runner 2049 seemed less detailed. Anyone else notice any issues with PQ on UHD's?

I think the picture quality easily bests my 1st gen LG UP970. And it's 1000x quieter. The only thing I noticed is that the streaming quality, on the Vudu app especially, isn't as good as on my Xbox One X or the TV's built-in app (LG 65UH8500). Which is a shame since it's all I've got that will do Dolby Vision and Atmos at the same time with this TV.

Have you tried using the dual HDMI and running a cable for video direct to the TV and another for audio to your receiver?

I just saw this on one of the earlier pages:

"Depends on the TV. I usually use the player’s 4:4:4 if I use something like Vizio and older Samsung and older LG. With the new Samsung Q series of this year and LG Tvs with Alpha processor, I use 4:2:2 (4:2:0 if available)!and let the TV do the chroma upsampling."

I have a Q series also, tonight I will change it from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 and see if it helps.

No, I haven't. I don't stream off the player, I stream using the native apps on the Q. Just curious, why would running audio to my soundbar help PQ?

I had both the 800 and 700. The picture quality is okay, nothing to write home though. Upscaling is only meh, not even good.

Yeah if I don't see any improvement from the change to 4:2:2 I'm going to return it to Walmart and go back to using my M8500.

It's not so much about the audio, just having a direct connection to the TV for the video. I'm no expert but I swear there's a slight difference in picture quality, at least with my TV/receiver combo.

That's very interesting and I appreciate the input.

Compared to the 8500 the 700 is an improvement but depends on your TV, you may not be able to see the difference. If you really want to see a clear difference, Panasonic UB820 is the answer. The chroma upsampling and video upscaling from HD are phenomenal. But it is a lot more expensive than the 700 (not much difference in Canada but supposedly it’s even more expensive in the US)

I like this player overall. But as others have said, the streaming is not good. I use my Apple TV or internal apps to stream.

I wish I could see the improvement. I have the Samsung Q6F QLED and to my eyes, movie to movie (on Blade Runner 2049), I don't see an improvement, in fact it appears worse, which shocked me.

Pardon my ignorance, but... is the X700 better than the X800?

I would think the model number suggested otherwise, but in side-by-side specs comparisons, I can't see much difference, other than that the X700 supports Dolby Vision, while the X800 doesn't..?

Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me!
