I'd also be surprised if they left it at just the two Val Lewton films, you'd expect them to have more.

We should bear in mind that with most of these titles they'll be at the mercy of Warner's restoration team. Moreover, I don't know if they ever commented on the size of the Warner deal.
I seem to recall hearing from some source that the Warner deal was for a small number of titles. Can anyone else confirm this? I'm not sure if it was a SF FB post, or something Michael Felsher said, but I recall that information being presented.

I am surprised they didn't do a box-set for these Universal '50s monster movies. They've been released in collections before, on DVD, heck even laserdisc. The solo releases will "make them more money" at $30 a pop -- but not if people don't buy them. I'd be surprised if DEADLY MANTIS and MOLE PEOPLE move a lot of units on their own...but more power to them if they do.

As someone else mentioned it's very probable that one of the conditions of the licensing agreement was that the films be released individually.

Shout! Factory's March Madness Sale heads to the final round! From now (March 29) until Monday, April 2 at 11:59pm, hit ShoutFactory.com to score three tiers of site-wide discounts!* Here's the breakdown:

Save 10% for orders over $60
Save 15% for orders over $80
Save 20% for orders over $200

Plus get free U.S. shipping for all orders over $50! And don't forget to enter for a chance to win one of three shopping sprees on our site! So what are you waiting for? Make a fast break to ShoutFactory.com now!

*Sale does not include Wild At Heart, MST3K: The Singles Collection, or Gravity Falls.
The percentage off was off their current price, not SRP, making these decent deals if you buy over $200. But this was Shout before they changed their business practices in the summer of 2018, so it will be interesting to see what the deals are like.

This is zero confirmation on those Hammer titles.
I hope you are right but could just as easily be MOON ZERO TWO & HYSTERIA.

No confirmation indeed, but George Reis has strongly hinted that Curse and Crescendo are coming, but not from Warner Archive.

Always a possibility but if that's the case, why were they able to package these Lugosi-Karloff releases into a box-set licensed from Universal? It'd be curious if the demands on THE MOLE PEOPLE are different than THE BLACK CAT, but it'd be interesting to know.

How dare a company that depends on money to keep buying rights and making more product try to make more money....

You're assuming that people are willing to spend $30 a pop for these movies. Most folks that frequent this thread don't feel that way however have expressed an interest in purchasing the films in a cheaper bundle. It's not a stretch to think that these are going to be low sellers, so unless the license was cheap and only 500 -1000 copies need to sell before they can turn a profit, it's understandable why people would assume that a boxset, despite costing less, actually would have made them more money.

I completely understand people thinking that these B-grade monster flicks would be better suited as double features or a boxed set... I actually agree with that.

On the other hand, I'm thrilled to see these and can't wait to own them.

I do think Scream should have at least put these at a lower msrp... maybe $19.95 which would mean they could be had pretty easily for $15... they would still come out ahead profit-wise versus having a double feature disc and more people would be happy....

I'm generally not a fan of movies being boxed together, unless they are part of the same series. Otherwise, I'd rather have them individually.

It definitely hurts sales. I normally would blind buy all of these random 50s horror movies I've never seen before but there's no way I'm paying these new prices on blind purchases like those. They may make more profit per sale but they're definitely not going to move as much copies as they used to.

I have around 6 Shout titles in my Amazon Cart and waiting for them to get below $20 before I get them. In the last month I have gotten 3 titles at $18-20. These prices stink but many are new titles so I can really only complain about old titles.

Are you guys still buying Shout films and if so how much are you paying?

Jumping in on the box set and multi-feature conversation. When I first started buying Shout movies, it was during one of their sales years and years ago. I blind bought a few of their double features simply because I figured great, two for the price of one I'll give it a shot! Same with the Amityville set, I had only ever seen the first and don't think I would have paid up for all of them at $25-30 a piece, but as a set I was all over it. Poison Ivy & Critters are recent examples of sets I paid up for because I felt there was better value and would have never paid $25-30 each.

I've expressed my opinion about this many times before, especially during the great pricing debate of 2018 but I feel like Shout has gone overboard with the expensive "Collector's Edition" thing. It used to seem more exclusive than it is now, including some titles that could probably have been bundled. Now it seems like almost everything is coming out as a Collector's Edition because it "justifies" a higher price. I know I'm more selective about my purchases with them now and do a lot less exploring with blind buys. That being said, they release a ton of quality content and I still consider myself a "supporter" but it's more limited to either what I think of as a "real" Collector's Edition or something that I really want that doesn't already have a release.

Since they raised there prices it's kind of rare to get them for under $20 now. I use to wait for when they got below that, but now not so much.

If people don't buy these movies, what will Shout focus on next? It's either going to be silent films or post-2000. I think they've mined the 70's and 80's as much as they could.

So far I've bought two of the Hammer films (Prince of Darkness & Plague of the Zombies), pre-ordered Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires & will be pre-ordering Frankenstein Created Woman. I think it just depends on how much people want the films. Other stuff though I'm waiting for a good price on before buying. As for box sets, sometimes I like them but sometimes I don't since I'm not interested in every film they include & would rather just buy what I want individually, even if it means spending a bit more.

I'm guessing one day Shout will go the way of Anchor Bay and Image and start releasing more new films and less older films and then finally get bought out by a bigger company.

If SF offered some sort of bundle deal (i.e. getting three or more of the 50s sci-fi/horror titles for under $20 each), they'd move a lot more of them. Hell, if they had more frequent sales that were actually worth a damn, I'd buy from them far more often. The only times I order movies direct from Shout is if there's a exclusive poster or some other geegaw I'd like to have (like that sweet Tom Atkins action figure in the Night Of The Creeps bundle ). Meanwhile, Kino or Warner Archive or Twilight Time or Criterion will have their entire catalogues on sale four or more times per year, and with far more enticing prices. When a Shout title goes "on sale", and you're STILL paying well over $20, there's something seriously wrong with your business model.
