I agree. Next week it looks like the 300 sales will be even more dominant for BD. But. there is Heroes on Aug 28 against Blades of Glory.

Maybe we do need that "Send a Message to Kornblau" buy-a-thon on Aug 28.

Yeah 62/38 doesn't seem to make much sense based on the top 10's.

300 at 250K represents a big chunk of disc sales this year.

Unfortunately, the numbers offer hope to HD DVD followers.

Blades of Glory should be a pretty strong seller, seeing as how Paramount finally got their ass in gear and optimized it for Blu-ray. So hopefully we'll get both the Blu-ray exclusive and dual-format users picking this one up.

based on 250,000 copies, 300 BD sold 164,107 and 300 HD DVD sold 85,893

By the way 100:52.34 is not 65:35, it's 66:34

Hot Fuzz definately put them up there. That's 5% right there

I don't blame anyone for buying it, great movie.

Heroes is very expensive, it's not going to hit nearly as hard as you think especially after so many have blown their wad on planet earth

Hope for what? Lasting another 2 weeks into 1Q or 2Q of 2008?

Good showing for HD DED but they still can't crack 40%. Content, content, content. Are you listening Fox and Disney? Jeezus Peezus, if Fox and Disney open the vault this 4th quarter it will be a massacre.

Very Nice ad, I love the part I quoted.

Pretty good showing. The 300 ratio was 66/34 using the index numbers, as previously mentioned. So with them having Shaun and Hot Fuzz, and The Bourne ID only a week old (w/ the Ultimatum in theaters last Friday), 62/38 overall isn't bad.

Well definitely lower than we were hoping but 300 just destroyed everything else. I can't remember a week where the 2nd through 5th ranked BR titles were at an index of 5 or lower. Nothing even came close to this title. The good news is that we should see strong sales for 300 BR for the following months. 300 is a stronger title than Casino Royale and that one has hung around and is still making an impact.

The aggerate numbers are a little screwy. They have Bourne Identity ahead of PE even though Bourne has an index of 1.59 and PE is 2.26. The same thing with Shaun of the Dead (1.21) and IMAX: Blue Earth (1.46).

Things will get back to normal next week. Frankly if they were to hit the 40's on slow BD weeks sometime during the remainder of the summer I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch. I know I have pretty much caught up on all the older releases that I wanted.

The great news is we still stomped all over their numbers. Does anyone know how many HD-DVD players have been sold so far? There cant be that many more owners willing to buy 300 on HD-DVD. On the otherhand there are millions of PS3 owners including myself who still havent purchased it. (planning to by the way).

I just picked up a BD of Eragon on my lunch break so I am supporting the cause .

Hot Fuzz must be the cause of the drop to 62:38.

The top 10 in real numbers (assuming 250K 300 sold)

1. 300 - Blu-ray - 164,107
2. 300 - HD DVD - 85,893
3. Hot Fuzz - HD DVD - 15,869
4. Shooter - Blu-ray - 8,287
5. Shooter - HD DVD - 4,841
6. The Bourne Identity - HD DVD - 3,971
7. Planet Earth - Blu-ray - 3,232
8. Shaun of the Dead - HD DVD - 3,035
9. Imax: Blue Planet - Blu-ray - 2,445
10. Casino Royale - Blu-ray - 2,412

Lesson: Big titles are what counts. And all HD DVD has is Bourne Ultimatum for the rest of the year. If it comes out in 2007.

Assuming a Fox return, BD has potentially:

Spidey 3, Fantastic 4 II, Live Free or Die Hard, The Simpsons Movie, Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Ratatouille, all coming out when there should be a nice run up in PS/3 sales.

Again, I'm willing to bet this is the high water mark for HD DED for the remainder of the year. Watch how far Hot Fuzz and 300 drop in overall sales next week. On the other hand 300 on Bd will continue to be strong. In fact I would be shocked if by September 1st (30 days after release of 300) the Bd version has outsild HD DED by at least 3.5-1.
