I used to watch my eldest brother play FF on Ps1 when i was little (I still remember looking through his walk hrough and shouting out a character called Slapper lol) and thinking of getting a FF game for my Switch but unsure whether to go for a cheaper classic or waiting and buy a physical modern title, that could be traded in or even brought used.

Also, what the chances of any of these in a sale in a few months?
**** yes IX is the last great one in my opinion vivi

I think X (Even with its linear structure and lack of world map) is the last great entry. Things went down hill once Sakaguchi resigned. The amount of great games he was the Executive Produce for are staggering.

While I enjoy X in terms of what it brought 3D wise and storywise I hated what it did to FF until XV. X, XII, and XIII are 3 of the weakest entries into the series in terms of gameplay. The loss of the world map was just uncalled for.

I bought XII day 1 for the PS2. Played it for a few hours then never touched it again. Did not like the battle system. I've completed XIII. Not a huge fan of the paradigm system. I have XIII-2 but have no desire to finish it. Lots of sizzle but not much there for me at least. I'd rather play I or VI for the umpteenth time.

I’ve played a bit of 1, and it is of course cool to see where the series started, but IMO it is badly dated to the point of just not being fun. Even 4 and 5, while definitely advanced well beyond that point, still to me feel like the series hasn’t fully matured, and its VI (certainly a top 5 all time RPG in my book, and I got all three SNES games at a similar time when they were ported to PS1 after VII and VIII so was easy to compare) which is the quantum leap and a title I can always go back to.

I’ve never even played 13, it’s one of only two mainline single player games in the series I’ve never touched along with 3. I did play a bit of 13-2 and it didn’t seem very inspiring, but I would certainly be interested in a 13 sub series remaster to check it out.

If 13 didn't have Lightning I probably wouldn't have finished it. The game isn't perfect but I like Lightning and her voice actor is excellent.

I became very disinterested in XIII any time Lightning wasn’t around. Loved her character though.

Played some of Final Fantasy X this evening on Switch, and while I miss it having all the extra features the other ports have, it is really nice on the system from what I can tell.

X2 is really treated as second class on the physical release, not only is it not on the cart as we know, but it isn’t even its own title like similar releases on the Switch has done, and functions as a DLC add on for X (on the main menu it says you can get the game as DLC in eshop if you go to select it, basically the same as how the Episodes are done with FFXV on PS4, with of course a voucher code for the DLC included in the physical release).

Some issues on 7 are getting patched on Switch and XBOne.

Summary of patch:

Music will now resume where it left off once a battle has concluded.

Transitions between cutscenes and gameplay no longer have a frame of black screen.

The flashback scene that played incorrect music now plays the correct music.
