Paramount is sending out projectionist letters asking theaters to test their equipment for 120fps 2D and 60fps 3D: https://theplaylist.net/paramount-an...-fps-20190312/

I'm very interested in Lee's vision, as I love 3D, and seeing the format in HFR should be cool, although it has been done before. It's obviously a smart move by Paramount to do the tests now.

There were Night of Dreams and New Magic with 60fps. I meant HFR 3D has been done before with the Hobbit movies.

If this is going to be presented in the same visual style as the HFR 3D screening of the last Hobbit movie I saw, I'm definitely skipping it in favor of regular framerate. Watching The Hobbit like that literally made my head swim.

I was (am) excited when I read they're doing high frame rate because I really wanted to see Billy Lynn that way but it wasn't available near me. And then I totally forgot that I saw the first half hour of The Hobbit that way before I had to just get the hellck out of there.

But it's really funny how that memory left my mind. I've been thinking of future Avatar films and how those will be fun to see in a new format (presumably, if they're still planning HFR), all the while never remembering that um I did see a screening in that format already.

This doesn't dissuade me though. For one, it's almost like ten years later and the approach and technique might be improved. Also, The Hobbit movies are unwatchable for me in any frame rate. And I want to give this more of a chance from trustworthy directors like Ang Lee. I am excite.

Wasn't Cameron going for 60fps for the Avatar sequels?

Wouldn't mind a movie that was done specifically for VR headsets. Throw the audience into the action in first person.

Feature length movies have no business in VR at this moment. That's sounds like a chore to sit through.

RoboCop in VR would be epic though.

I'd certainly like seeing certain scenes from it for sure, but I can't see myself enjoying a 2 hour movies in that format right now. They have to make the technology smaller and more comfortable first.

I agree with the bolded part. VR sets as they currently are can get very uncomfortable. Being smaller and lighter would be a great advantage without question.

300 people with Cokes & popcorn twisting & turning in their seats trying to follow 360° action? Yeah, no. The theater cleaning would last longer than the movie.

That's like combining one form of something with another. For example: A guy sitting on a train heading to work at a computer company, logging into blu ray forum on his tower PC while on the train.

That just wouldn't happen. Unless you wanted to ride the train/view the movie that way of course, then who can stop you?

It can be done correctly so it isn't disorientating. It would require years of refinement though.

I really didn't like The Hobbit at 48fps, so I can't imagine what 120fps would be like. I mean, it's basically a videogame at that point.

The files are attached on the Wonder Park drives (says not to show it with the actual film) and there’s that letter explaining how it’s just test footage and not film footage.
