Would also like both cuts, but I'll probably end up importing the UK disc if they don't. Have they ever released the US version in Europe? Or vice versa? I wonder if there could be a weird legal reason preventing them from doing so.
UK has both cuts available.

Both cuts, but only one aspect ratio please. No need for 1.33:1.

Figured, I might as well be the first to post this here in this thread. Glad we got that out of the way quickly.

Maybe they'll release that one after it's theatrical re-release in the UK later this year.

Is actually want a 2 Disc 4K set with thr multiple cuts and aspect ratio opyions

But that won’t happen so my major hope is that we finally get the original Saul Bass WB opening logo!

They're coming thick and fast now - three of my all time top ten* are already here or announced and now this which sits in my top 30 easily!

(Alien, Apocalypse Now and 2001 for those interested)

Odds for a extended behind the scenes with Vivian Kubrick supervising? And odds for the orininal ending to be seen in some form whether integrated with the movie or as s special feature.

So I guess the EU cut is quite ingrained on me and when I watched the longer cut last year I just found the extra scenes completely unnecessary. It explains far too much and I've always liked the ambiguity of the shorter EU version.
The Shining is my favorite movie of all time and I’ve seen both cuts and I think the EU cut is awful. The whole scene with the Doctor was essential for the viewer as it dives into a bit of backstory and Wendy’s personality in how she always defends Jack. It’s very weird watching it go from Danny’s visions to them just heading to the hotel. I hate it.

Imo it’s not a tighter paced film.... it’s a butchered film. That’s just my opinion though.

Honestly though, this is exciting news. I hope we get both cuts. In 4k.

That is monumentally f--ked up!

YES PLEASE!!!! I think that would only happen if Criterion did it though. Seems like something they’d do. Doubt WB wants to get rid their present logo from the movie.

The aspect ratio was meant to be 1.85:1.

YES. I actually hated that about the EU cut, the entire scene with Danny and the doctor I felt was necessary character development. It was also the only scene that featured Anne Jackson so her name coming up in the opening credits on the EU version is just weird.

There are things that I like about the EU version (like I said before I feel that there are improvements in pacing) but I also think the US version is the better cut of the film.

I used to be this way. I just kept hearing how great it was. But was not impressed with my DVD rental viewings myself. Brother bought the Blu-ray in 2010 for our collection. I watched it again. Still only luke warm about it.

And then it gnawed away at me. Somewhere around 2011, 2012, something clicked about this one when I viewed it on my own. Felt like I really watched it, got immersed -- I haven't viewed it in maybe 3 or 4 years, but thinking of the scenes that stuck with me, and picturing them in 4K with all that brings to enhance the film experience puts a smile to my face.
