By a country mile. I like the original, but the '78 version is damned frightening.

You got that right. Liked everything about that movie. Especially the choice of San Francisco. I wish it was still like that today. Used to be such a beautiful city.

Agreed...but then I'd go as far to say that Pocahontas itself is underrated, especially the director's cut version which only restores a couple of minutes but those couple of minutes improve the film so much.

I never saw Moana, but does it have Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel? No? Then it's by definition not better.

Zootopia is the bottom of the bunch. I'd struggle to enjoy it even after a lobotomy. Perhaps that's why I don't enjoy it...

Hell yes, the Kaufman BODY SNATCHERS is one of the best political paranoia flicks of the political paranoia-filled 70s, plus it has a really wonderful love story (two if you count Golblum and Cartwright.) I like a lot of Siegel's work, but the 78 version is to my mind exceptional filmmaking and excellent horror, like THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE and THE EXORCIST when it comes to entertainment and repeat viewing pleasure.

How is this an unpopular opinion though? Isn't it pretty much the general consensus?

Yeah. It's not on the same level as saying "Carpenter's Thing > original Thing" but it's close. I doubt many would take the 1931 version of Dracula over Coppolas Dracula either.

well, considering the thread we're in....

Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula is the most bloated, overrated, and disappointing Dracula film of all time. Gary Oldman does not fit (or look) the part at all, Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves give embarrassing performances and Hopkins overacts outrageously. Some of the dialogue is cringe worthy in key scenes that are supposed to be effective... ("take me away from all this death", "I love you too muccchhh!")

It's visually pleasing and boasts a fine music score... that's about it.

I think the Coppola film's success is that it (for me anyway) succeeds in spite of Reeves and Hopkins. Sort of the same thing with PEGGY SUE, where Nicholas Cage ruins every scene he is in (he and Tom Cruise have killed more movies for me just by appearing in them), but I like the Coppola movie anyway.

I kind of think of the Oldman Drac as being from a different reality, sort of like how I see the Lazenby Bond, who is wholly lacking in world-weariness and cynicism ... I kind of consider OHMSS to be about a whole separate Double-0, but that is its own paradox, as I have an even harder time buying into THIS guy working in that organization in the role of assassin.

Knocking the acting in Bram Stokers Dracula seems to be missing the point. I don't for a second think Copolla was trying to make a film that felt in any way real or believable. Everything about it was amped up to 11 for theatrical effect. Much of the film's style seemed purposely steeped in early cinema melodrama from the silent and early talkie period. If anything I think more grounded performances would of flattened the film.

Same here. (although I did enjoy Hopkins' performance)

Terminator 2 > Terminator
Alien > Aliens

I feel like I should either like the ones directed by James Cameron more or I should like the ones not directed by him more. Is this unpopular?
