The problem with the 420 is that it's a retailer exclusive model to Currys in the UK. Maybe you could find one on ebay, refurbs pop up at £79.99 from the Panasonic outlet, dunno if they ship outside the UK either though.

Are you referencing around the 14:20 time mark upwards when Vincent is talking about DV (Oppo vs Panasonic)?. If so, I notice the same thing with my players when watching DV content. The Panasonic is so much brighter vs both my Oppo 203 and Sony X700 when viewing DV content. DV is different with the players and not only the TV's. Also, when viewing HDR content on all three of my players you can't tell the difference, but with DV it's different with the same TV, plus I have friends who have same or different TV and the see the same among the Oppo vs Panasonic. Dolby vision is fully controlled by Dolby Labs and not the equipment makers, why so many differences among the equipment when Dolby has full control of the DV process down to the code level? |

I’m surprised having both the OLED’s Active HDR and the optimiser on is the preferred method here? Aren’t they kind of conflicting one another?
eBay have 15% off electronics code today so I can get an 820 for £245. Currently have the Panny UB700 which has been great, but this optimiser on the 820, plus Dolby Vision is really calling me. OLED is an LG B7. Hmmm what to do!!!?! |

My 820 was delivered today.
Just to be sure (in case there is some deeper level setting I am unaware of)... With an LG 6 series, I shouldn't need to "turn off" any HDR settings, correct? Since the 6 series do not have their own built in dynamic HDR settings, and just the standard HDR/DV options? |

Look's like a LG OLED used for the comparison. Time stamp (13:13) in the video, you will see him changing the Contrast,. The TV stand during the video (example 4:17). Between my friends and I using (203 & UB820) with both Sony and LG TV's we noticed the Panasonic brighter in DV than the Oppo, but same/close with HDR, so it happens with different TV brands. Also noticed the loading screen (elevated gray) when you first start the DV movie (13:44). I thought my TV was at fault lol. I am very happy with the Panasonic. This comes down to Dolby since they control the whole process.

I’ll be honest...with the UB700 and the LG OLED B7 I have seen issues that the optimiser on the 820 is clearly going to improve dramatically with HDR10. Obviously I also wanted the DV capabilities so I’m looking forward to checking out how my DV discs look. Good to hear you’re happy with it!! I just don’t get how the DV would look brighter from one player to another on the same display with a metadata standardised delivery. |

He had a Sony TV when he was talking in front of the TV. However, during the comparison of the DV he used two LG OLED TV's ( look at time stamp 13:14) the contrast controls are from a LG not a Sony TV. Time stamp (13:38-13:48 etc) the TV stands are from a LG TV. He used the Sony TV when he was talking in front of the TV (0:37)

So the Panny DV implementation is brighter and clipping more highlight information than the OPPO, eh? Who knew? Oh that's right, I did:

DV implementation is all over the place. Everyone always blame LG, Sony etc, but Dolby never get the heat. Dolby controls the whole process and code. ![]() |

I tried Mortal Engines in DV with the panny and than DV in the oppo 203. Geoff you nailed it again because with that movie on the panny and then putting it in my oppo the panny was def brighter where the oppo looked fine. Now I am watching the first mission impossible in DV on the oppo and will try it in the panny next for a quick check but I already know what the outcome will be.
