If you think that's bad. Hibernian manager Neil Lennon received a touchline ban after his team secured a 5-5 draw, and qualification for Europe, in the dying seconds of last season. All he did was step onto the pitch in front of the dugouts, arms outstretched.

I'm just watching BBC Sports Personality of the Year on BBC One HD. Gareth Southgate was awarded with Coach of The Year at the live event in Birmingham. Harry Kane was there beside him on the stage. I had missed Kane's few words about the WC in Russia. But I heard Southgate trying to give a thank you speech & a few other words after he was greeted with a friendly chants from some England fans. The guys who did the England 1990 WC song It's coming home presented the award to Gareth Southgate.
The Republic of Ireland senior & U-21 managers Mick McCarthy & Stephen Kenny were speaking at the RT Sports Awards in Dublin last night. They were giving a brief assessment of the team's upcoming progress for the Euro 2020 Qualifiers which begin in March. Ray Houghton also got honoured with the RT Sport/Irish Sports Council Hall of Fame Award for his involvement in Euro 88 & Italia 90 campaigns. Tony Cascarino was on The Late Late Show about his recent surgery for a benign brain tumour. He looked really well when he appeared on the show on Friday night. I'm really glad that his surgery went well & is living a happy life. |

Well I think Liverpool turned out well. It would have been perfect if Tottenham and City were'nt playing each other but I guess you can't have everything.

John Delaney's career in the Football Association of Ireland is nearly coming to an end tonight.
He had the position of Chief Executive of the FAI since 2003 until long standing revelations were published by the Irish media over a controversial €100k bridging loan being granted to the FAI. It was being used to sort out a short term cash flow issue which could meant that they were short on funds within the organisation itself. John Delaney had sought to have an injunction to the High Court in Dublin. That injunction attempt from the High Court had eventually failed against the FAI & the story on these revelations was eventually published to various Irish media outlets. The FAI had attended Irish parliamentary committee on Transport, Tourism & Sport in Dublin on Wednesday to answer questions about the reasons for approving this bridging loan to the FAI. Not much information was divulged at these hearings. John Delaney said at the hearing that not a lot of information about these revelations should not be subject to such scrutiny at the committee hearing because of advice being given from their legal representation. In response to these allegations. Sport Ireland which was at one of those parliamentary hearings, also gives funding to other sporting bodies in Ireland have temporarily suspended their funding to the FAI which allows funding given to grassroots football clubs around the Republic of Ireland. This funding is used to the run clubs associated with competing through the younger clubs schoolboys league etc. This story has been a huge heap of controversy among the Irish football fan base since these allegations came to light. I even watched on the news tonight that some fans attending League of Ireland matches on Friday night were holding huge banners saying 'Delaney out' in the football stands. There were was a small brawl happening in the stands at Turners Cross in Cork which thankfully petered down afterwards which was also linked to the FAI controversy of this bridging loan. John Delaney's salary at the FAI before he resigned as CEO last weekend amounted to over €360,000 a year. He also has a position on the board of UFEA which also gives him another salary. After he resigned as CEO; he had taken up the role of executive board of the FAI which took away two thirds of his salary. That position being created for him is now temporary because the very same board, that he is a member of, met at their HQ in Abbotstown tonight. It is now known that the other board members are now re-considering their positions on the executive board & they may take the advice to resign from the board as early as tomorrow morning. There is news coming about the appointment of FAI's new CEO in the media during the past week. There has been talk that the job as John Delaney's successor will be going to a female. I don't know what here name is at the moment as I have heard her name before but I have forgotten who it is. How does everybody else feel about this story? We need change and new ideas to help football in our country.
The G.A.A has the big sponsors and money to go with it being the number one sport in the country and Irish football is third on the list behind the G.A.A and Rugby. League of Ireland football is struggling for a long time and we need to change this with more money invested in the game to better investment with youngsters and other areas. We have a great stadium in the Aviva but the F.A.I have not done enough to host European Finals there and that has to change, we must look to other countries and leagues to learn and get Irish football on the move again. |
