Speaking of trailers, here’s a “modernized” trailer someone posted recently that I think is really well done.

I didn't say it was poorly edited, I just think that Regan coming with that mouth dripping blood was a little stupid. I prefer the original scene, closer to the book, where she crawls like an animal and for some reason wants to attack Sharon but ignores her mother. I find it very eerie.

I still think this trailer really captures the atmosphere of the movie the best:

Even with the crappy youtube encode, the colours are so much nicer than the Blu-ray (including the correct colours for the ball/toys).
Oh, wow. Colors are much better than the current Blu-ray. One of my all time favorite films, and an instant 4K preorder.

I prefer that version as well, but the establishing shot is wonky there, too.
The wires make the contortionist's backward crawling look floaty and fake.

I would love it if they had the exact same themed packaging for all the Kubrick UHDs.
The slipbox is a beauty.

The original cover art is beautiful, I hope they go with that. The yellow will pop against the black 4K case.

I know they used it for the soundtrack but have they ever used it for a home video release?

I also agree that the original is better for the reasons you gave. The scene in the "Version You've Never Seen" is too gimmicky and over-the-top in the same way all of the other added CGI stuff is (e.g. the demon face showing up everywhere).

With that said, I understand why Friedkin cut it out of the original movie. By having it immediately follow the news of Burke Denning's death, you have a "double climax" that takes away the impact of the news of Burke's death. The scene doesn't resolve properly. Still, it's a shame to lose that creepy spider-walk image.

The link below is a most excellent site which showcases comparisons between various versions of films.

If only they could find the initial cut that ended with
[Show spoiler]Shelley Duvall at the hospital being told they couldn't find Jack

This one combines both familiar images.

The ‘Here’s Johnny’ image was on original posters as well.

One thing I miss from VHS WB is how they list the genre. I always liked that.

In this case, I don't think whether or not it's in WB's possession has any bearing- they're not going to include it either way. The Kubrick cuts are all locked and deleted scenes are not on the table.

Kubrick never allowed any cut footage to make its way to the public. There are over 2 hours of cut footage from A Clockwork Orange we will never see, there's no doubt in my mind that the original ending from The Shining will never see the light of day.

The film did get the 4K treatment in 2004; I wonder if it's a rescan of the best surviving elements.
