Wow, that's even more impressive then. I was flipping back and forth comparing it to some shots from Outlaw Star (which as far as I'm concerned is a reference 35mm scan) and though it was noticeably softer I still couldn't quite decide between a soft 35mm or really amazing 16mm scan.

These transformative Blu-ray presentations are what I live for. Don't think anybody will argue that Kimagure Orange Road looks stunning, especially put next to the AnimEigo DVD.

The ONLY gripe I have is that the Japanese credits on the fifth screenshot don't stand out as much as on the DVD, but that's all I can say it is, a gripe. Otherwise near flawless.

I'd say it's reference quality. Up there as one of the best on the BD format for cel based anime.

Seriously. It isn't truly even anime if the end product doesn't look like it was drawn by a human being.

Decided to just get off my lazy ass, dig my Blu-ray player out of the shed I have my things stored in, set it up on the 4K TV my sister has and watch through the first episode.

First, yeah, the 1080i on the box is a misprint. It's a progressive presentation.

Second, the presentation has definitely got a good amount of banding going on. It's not as egregious as some more recent sets I've seen from other companies (looking at you, Funimation and Viz), but it's absolutely noticeable, and is pretty prominent in a few shots even if you're not paying close attention. This isn't too surprising, though, since it's a 2013 Sentai set.

Anybody compared Occultic;Nine US vs UK version? They have the same number of disc, but probably UK version does not look the same, right?

The UK release is vastly inferior. They use like 12 GB on each disc. Complete shitshow.

I’ve seen the first episode and it doesn’t look worse than most everything else, but the stats really are horrifying, as described earlier. I’m completely dumbfounded as to why they decided to encode 4 GB episodes and put three on each disc. Nothing about it makes sense.

Likely looks as good as it gets. It's nothing amazing and they appear to have done the best they could with the digital masters that exist.

That's about the best you could hope for short of a full HD recomposite. I'd be pretty satisfied with that purchase.
