I wouldn't be surprised if more studios start letting catalog titles go OOP to drive subscriptions to their new streaming sites. Warner was bought by AT&T and you can bet their extensive catalog will be a big part of the soon-to-launch streaming service.

I don't think it's some evil plot to prop up streaming - it's that sales have slowed to the point where they don't consider it worth their while to keep repressing.
I know I've heard anecdotes from bands that certain CDs of theirs on major labels have gone out of print in the last few years because yearly sales have dropped below 1000. I wouldn't be surprised if WB is working off some similar magic number for movies. In both cases, the first time the sales drop below that threshold and when customers actually see the 'out of print' status due to stores not having any more stock could be multiple years apart. I'm fine with MOD when they use real replicated BD-ROMs, which is what Warner Archives and Universal MOD and (as of recently) Sony MOD do. But even then, it's just "package-on-demand" - the actual discs are still being replicated in batches and just stored on a spindle instead of in fully-assembled cases - so it's not like WB can solve all their problems by categorizing everything as Warner Archive/MOD; there is still overhead. |

I just hope they don't spend years adding the same titles we already have BDs of when there are so many others that need to be released. Stephen King's Storm of the Century was with Warner last I knew, and I hate forever being stuck with a double-sided DVD of it. This is the 20th anniversary, and we'll probably still get screwed out of a re-release this year.

This title is indeed OOP as confirmed by an email from Severin tonight when I asked them about it. I was told it went OOP a couple of years ago.

If it went OOP a couple years ago, that might explain why I got it for free from them within that time frame during one of their sales where if you spent X amount you got free blu-rays. They probably couldn't sell their existing stock and giving it out for free was the only way to free up room.

It looks like the original Godzilla (1954) from Criterion Collection has gone OOP. Out of stock at Best Buy, sold only by 3rd parties on Amazon, and creeping up in price. I can’t even find a listing on Barnes & Noble’s website.
I grabbed a new copy at MTC for $30 along with a new copy of The Time Machine for $18. |

I went ahead and ordered the two volumes I didn’t have yet, 3 & 4. They are both at reasonable prices too. |

Was lucky enough to grab a copy of "Contact" for 10 bucks off Amazon. I'm region free, so I'm not sure if it was region A or not. Also grabbed a region B of The Road for 8 bucks. Grabbed "Don't say A Word" for 8 bucks as well. I heard that one was starting to get a bit hard to find by listening to one of Shawn C. Phillips Tuesday videos.
