Thanks
It's a Best Buy exclusive here in the states, so not available to be sold by the site. That will probably stop in the next 3-4 months

Then people will just have to get larger displays. Heck, I've got 3 displays larger than 60"
The average person will not have 1 TV that big, let alone 3. 32-42 inches will continue to be the average standard. Anything above 1080p will remain the thing of professional exhibition houses for the forseeable future, and probably period. There's simply no need for it in the average home because they won't have a screen big enough to take advantage of it.

That's a shame. Unless people are sitting 6' or closer, they're not even getting the full benefit of 1080p from their 42" displays. And I doubt the average person is sitting within 6' in their living room. Blu Ray's going to continue to be an uphill battle with those averages, since the average person can't even see the benefit from their current display size and seating distance.

Looks like it. Meh...not my cup of tea.

Given the posts here, I thought it was going to be a studio rundown of releases coming the rest of the year. Oh well, we know a lot of what's coming this year already, so it's no big deal.

I was thinking it was gonna be very BIG news, but that's news to Star Trek fans. Not my cup of tea either.

The Star Trek update was worth it for me. I plan to get the 6 movie set and the original series sets. Good stuff.

Ill take it the news as exciting for me. Im a fan of Trek for sure.

My dream for Trek would be that TNG and DS9 get the HD treatment reformatted for 16x9 (assuming critical information isnt lost in doing so). Wont happen, but I CAN dream.

All in all, Im excited that Trek is coming to bluray.

Will buy the 6 movie pack, but not the series. Will sell the first film, since honestly I dont like it at all.

TNG would be very very difficult to reformat for 16:9, and that would be pan and scanning anyway, which none of us want

The standard bridgeshot framing would be slicing off heads constantly, or having floating heads at the very least. They liked to use a lot of wide angle lenses to make it seem bigger and more grand.

DS9 will almost certainly never get an HD facelift, and TNG is looking less likely by the day. The best DS9 will likely ever get is a run through a proffesional upconverter for syndication purposes

Any reason why DS9 will never get a HD facelift, after TNG its my personal fave series of trek. Is it due to a lack of popularity, a lack of decent masters, cheap FX or just a good old lack of cash?

And any news on voyager - is that going to see a facelift in the future or not??

I'm going with Trek.
I'd just like to remind everyone I had this called yesterday despite being told "nope."

In other news...I'm psyched.

Wow. So the "big news" was basically that you can take the stuff that's been on the site, complete with packaging designs, for days now and add the word "official" to it.

Yes, that was the big news

Lack of popularity, unfortunately. I personally believe it's the best overall of all the series. TOS and TNG are amazing shows, but the arcing story, the characters, and the scope make it most deserving, IMO of a facelift.

Quote:

TNG will get it before anything, Voyager would probably be next, but much much much more unlikely and a miracle probably involving ritual sacrifice would be required for DS9 (not that I endorse such things even to get HD DS9). Seriously, TNG remastered is looking bad, especially with the announcment of it re-entering syndication with no HD announcement to go with it. In order to have it ready to go in syndication they would have had to start this early last year, and that simply wasn't the case. The only way I can see this happening now is if they find some kind of broadcast partner(s) to co-finance the project. Cable exclusivity on Trek got burned out 10 years ago, so it's not going to mean much now. Too bad, this would have been the time to cut those kinds of deals

Hardly. The entire disc breakdowns are there, along with what's new, what's old, and what's missing. Piles of details. The only thing that's been on the site is a few of the box art that was leaked in Europe
