Superstition is in the house. Never thought I'd see this get a Blu-ray, let alone a new 2K scan. This is what it's all about for me.
The Anchor Bay DVD art is on the reverse sleeve. I like it but would never choose it over the iconic original theatrical poster. Last edited by Cinema84; 03-28-2019 at 05:51 PM. |

I checked out Forbidden World last night for the first time ever. I found this film to be more enjoyable than Galaxy of Terror though I still wouldn't rate it a whole lot higher than a passable time killer for me personally. I think the issue for me with both films was that I was expecting a little less Science Fiction and a little more horror so I was a bit disappointed in that regard. However that does mean that subsequent revisits will likely be a bit more positive now that I know what to expect from each film. I'd still recommend both films for fans of B-Movies. Galaxy of Terror looks and feels like a poor mans "Alien" rip off with some of the worst/mis-used sound effects I have ever heard in a film. Forbidden World appeared to be a bit less grand in scale but also seemed to have a better focus on the kind of story it wanted to tell and how it intended to get there.. It simply looked more like its own unique science fiction film. Both films have a touch of exploitiveness to them. Both had some fun effects sprinkled throughout, but hands down in my mind Forbidden World is the better film.
Forbidden World is a film where I could see the possibility of a new scan/upgrade making it worthwhile on the Scream Factory Lineup. The theatrical cut which I watched last night looked pretty good but the audio had some noticeable issues throughout that could potentially be cleaned up. Also on this release the Uncut/unrated cut was Full Frame (4:3) and relegated to a DVD. Given that we've seen the rise of HD transfers with Standard Definition inserts this film could likely benefit from a similar release in the event that there was no other way to release the unrated cut of the film. I'm not asking for a new release, but if one were to materialize I'm sure I'd eventually get around to picking it up. |

Watched The Body Snatcher. Hadn't seen it in years, but what a great film. This has got to be Karloff's greatest performance. So much fun. He is so believable as such a despicable human being. The art direction in this film is also very well done and atmospheric. Great story, great acting. Robert Wise was such a fine talent of a director. The film looks terrific.

Karloff is terrific in THE BODY SNATCHER, one of his finest performances. Speaking of great Karloff roles, hoping Scream also releases the Val Lewton-produced BEDLAM and ISLE OF THE DEAD, as well as THE BLACK ROOM through their Sony deal.
Karloff's superb work in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, one of the most touchingly human portrayals of a "monster" ever, remains my personal favorite. ![]() Speaking of Frankenstein, I recently saw MARY SHELLEY on Showtime (it's distributed on Blu by Shout, actually). Despite the tepid critical response, I found this to be a largely absorbing film (aided by some beautifully dark cinematography and production design) and Elle Fanning as Mary was a real surprise; she gives a heartfelt and impassioned performance as the free-spirited author, who took the frequently tragic aspects of her own life and put them right into her masterpiece. |

I also just watched Mary Shelley on Showtime today. It wasn't exceptional, but certainly better than most of the reviews said. |

Coming in July - The Leopard Man and Strays:
![]() ![]() Another Warner title (my suspicions regarding Lewton suggesting the deal was still active were correct) and another Universal TV film. Both exciting titles with exciting implications. Last edited by BarnDoor; 04-01-2019 at 04:59 PM. |

Well that was inevitable. No doubt Galaxy of Terror and probably Forbidden World are forthcoming.
