or they encoded an uncut PAL VHS in 23.976, with out downspeed, making it crap also, as mentioned above.
this is really getting embarassing...
That’s likely a different source. The version used for the VHS cut appears to be the same master as the earlier NZ DVD. The 2009 interview featurette sources all its clips from the 4:3 tape cut and both it and the VHS cut have the same glitches in the same spots.

At any rate, I only skipped through the VHS cut for comparison to the main feature. I doubt people will watch the VHS cut more than once, anyway.

I think the team behind this disc have done an impressive job with a film that would have been considered impossible to put on HD a decade ago. I’m not particularly interested in dumping on Umbrella. They make an effort with films in this region that no one else gives a damn about.

This has me more confused than ever. What do you mean by "different source?" 82:56 is 82:56 and NOT 78:53 or 79:44 (as the VHS cut appears to be mastered at 720p and 23.976 fps).

There really does seem to be an incorrect PAL to FILM transfer here, unless I'm woefully misunderstanding where the extra 3+ minutes (in 23.976 fps time) have disappeared to. What's the deal, and where's the beef??!!
